Ford is a global player and it's a smart play. You know China is eating everyone's lunch that isn't using protectionism to keep them out of their country, right? Low cost EVs are selling. Tesla just got dethroned by a Chinese company as the largest global seller.

They know they aren't going to move a ton of these in the US right away. They expect about 5% of sales at best...but they also know that CAFE standards and carbon tax credit schemes aren't always going to be what they are today. They also know there's a global market for smaller and less expensive trucks. Ford is the only automaker's stock I've kept.

They're also pursuing hybrids pretty hard. Years ago they'd talked about performance hybrids, the Ranger Raptor was originally going to be one. I think they scrapped it for the same reason the Ranger always gets slapped down for the US market, it can't outshine the F-150. The hybrid would have been faster than the F-150 Raptor, but the 3.0 turbo alone isn't. Now it's back on the planning menu for multiple vehicles. Think how nuts the capability of individual electric motors at each wheel brings to an offroad vehicle. You can neutral steer like a tracked vehicle, a turning radius of 0'. Tight shelf road? No issue, just spin in place.

The stock is never going to be a runaway like tech stocks can be, but it's a steady dividend and Ford's investing and hedging for the future in the way Stellantis failed to do.
China has built cars yes, which is not the same thing as selling them, eventually they will run out of storage fields...

Why do you think the "US" laughed this week when Canada's strong move was to import tens of thousands of these field EV's, this doesn't end well for nucks that buy these, just say'n.

My definition of eating our lunch is different then yours, this seams more like hunting through the garbage can eating our scraps.

I guess Ford want's to take Honda Ridgeline's segment? Sure looks like a clone.

There just isn't enough power to run mass EVs. Look at what is happening in California with trucking. Their EV strategy has blown up in their faces.

Diesel trucks can't meet their emissions, and EV trucks cost waaaaay too much, are unreliable, won't run a full day without multiple hours of recharging, and are not able to be manufactured in mass.

One trucking company was getting ready to take delivery of their first order of EV trucks when the city told them they couldn't charge them, as there wasn't enough power to run the city and charge the trucks.

Look how much time Ca has given to meet the new regulations, and no segment of the industry and infrastructure has been able to meet the requirements.

California/US emissions were a major reason Caterpillar had to exit the over the road engine business, and those same standards bankrupted Navistar.

I stumbled across this while researching latest API SQ. Who knows what you can trust out here on the interweb, but at least the poster didn't post terrible results. If this is true, Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 is excellent (sans LSPI resistance).

Remember also that Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 is a 'real' SAE 30 with 12.0 cSt @ 100 C published on their product data sheet. Not some wimpy 10.2 like many others (lookin' at you, PUP 5W-30 API SP). Important as they take away our big motors and replace with highly-stressed mouse-motors.

Don't get your news from propaganda Youtube sites. China has multiple manufacturers just like the US does, and some will fail. BYD is not failling and is having no problem moving units. Some 2 million a year and import limits are the only thing keeping them from selling more. The US is rightfully scared of letting them into our market, and that's why they say Canada will regret it. Canada agreed to let some in because they got a cut in soybean tariffs in exchange, we'll see if that was the right decision long term.

I see BYD cars in Europe pretty often. Look at the UK for what happens when the flood gates get opened even a little bit. 11k units sold in a month, despite not qualifying for EV grants that domestic brands qualify for. European sales more than doubled last year. See how they sell in South America and what you get for the money.

Only import controls keeps them from crushing domestic manufacturers, period. They received significant subsidies from their government early on and then the internal competition was so fierce they've got manufacturing efficiency on point.

That's the Maverick, and they sell a bunch of them. The average days on the lot to sell is less than two weeks nationwide and less than a week in many major markets.

Don't be blinded by your own wants and needs and forget how heavily urbanized the US has become and how much an affordable vehicle is needed. $35k-ish, mpg in the high 30s, easy to maneuver and park in urban environments, still has all the capability most suburban users or light trade workers will ever need. Low cost to insure, low cost to operate.

Stellantis abandoned the entry level market, they have no natural product progression any longer. Look where that's got them. Only the V8 Rams are moving at anything like the pace that "sucker" truck is.

Sure, but I thought that need was fulfilled by the Crossover SUV (which the wife has and does many things well)?

They updated techron's SDS late last year, and well it's sad that children write these things as not even the minimum weights are even possible, lol. If you take the minimum value of each item it is 110% of volume.

Still no PEA... remember the inventor of PEA Chevron switched to cheaper, less effective product to make more money.

PIB/PIBA (Polyisobutylene/Amine): PEA is more effective, especially for direct injection (GDI) engines and severe deposits, while PIB/PIBA offers lighter detergents.

Open bed still has advantages, and the Maverick (and, also, the Honda Ridgeline) are *very* well thought out to be useful. You can still haul plywood, sort of a metric for suburban DIY use. If you don't need or want that sort of thing, sure, a small SUV is a very common option. The Rav-4 is a huge seller for a reason, after all. It's usually neck and neck with the F-150 for top vehicle by sales in the US. But if you do value that:

Honestly, there's times this truck would be more useful than mine simply because of the height. I moved a big ass concrete fountain my wife bought and lifting the bowl bit up into my truck *sucked*. Even with help, only so many guys can get hands on it and be near the truck. Now, obviously I don't want to move firewood a teaspoon at a time so the inverse is also true.

Maverick can also get up to a 4k tow rating, plenty for a small landscaper trailer or the like.

Regardless of the perceived utility or lack of it, though, they are moving so the market likes them.

We looked at a Ridgeline as a 3rd vehicle and it's very well thought out as well. The lockable storage with a drain plug under the bed, the tailgate that opens to the side for easier access, the way the controls are laid out, all very well done. If they update the interior to be more inline with the new Pilot it'd be even better.

Had 2 family members that worked for JD in Waterloo, some of the problems they had in trying to contain cost to keep more jobs in the US was Union workers who refused to try a new way of doing things that would speed up production and lower JD cost, the union had to first look over the changes and then would then look to see if it was allowed in the unions contract with JD an if they said no they had to have negotiations over it, or as my cousin said a lot of union BS trying to get the workers to improve production speed thus lowering cost, heck he said most workers refused to try the new way even stuff that made there job easier...
Lessee now…. what you are saying is…. the workers and the company had made an agreement (contract) …. but the company wanted to CHANGE it…. and didn’t want the workers to have any say in re-defining their jobs..??
Gee…. what A-holes those workers are!

Listen Pal…. it was after WW2 that UNIONS created working conditions that improved life for EVERYONE…. Companies did Great! Workers did Great! America was Great!

Then along came Wall Street Whiz-Kids who wanted to scrape-away all the wealth for Themselves…. exported American jobs overseas…. And Now You Guys are getting the trash-engines you are all Agreeing are Trash Engines.

Doh!

The Most Important person in the factory is Not the CEO.
The Most Important person in the school is Not the Superintendent.

The Most Important person is the one who is On the Assy-Line Building your next vehicle….. and the Teacher who is actually Engaging with Your Child ..every day!

THEY are the ones who need and Deserve the Best Pay and Benefits!

UNIONS - The people who brought your WeekEnds! And Insurance. And safe workplaces! And Quality Products!

I would, redline 5w40 is a real good tick killer proven with that filter, there are others you can try, but on this board that is the proven one at aprx 80% success rate.“

Simple answer:

Only 20% of Hemi’s get a “tick”…. and high-priced “designer” oils….. are only that: High priced.

If RL or PUP or any other specific oil actually cured the problem…. Stellantis would REQUIRE it….and other refiners would COPY it.

Doh.

I forgot to add a caveat about HPL oil categories.

The viscosities vary by category. Their 5W-30 for instance is NOT the same viscosity in different categories.

For Ram 1500 owners it doesn't really matter. You're restricted to 3,000 lbs gross towing load, and your truck weighs ~ 1,000 lbs less than a 2500 or 3500. Heavy Duty trucks can tow 3 times as much.

For those of us with those heavy duty trucks who tow way more than 3,000 lbs, viscosity matters. A lot. to reduce rate of wear and power loss. I want an SAE 30 oil in the mid-to-upper viscosity of that range.

SAE 30 range is 9.3 - 12.5 cSt @ 100 C. HPL has a 5W-30 with only 10.2 cSt @ 100 C. That's only 28% into the SAE 30 range. They also have a 10.7 cSt @ 100C. That's a mid-range viscosity @ 44% into SAE 30 range.

In their "Super Car" category is their 0W-30 with a 12.2 cSt @ 100 C. That's 91% into the SAE 30 range.

Finally, if you live in cold climates, you only want the Premium Plus or Super Car. These are the only two categories with all PAO / Group IV base oil. They have lower cold viscosities than Group III.

Don't quibble with the 10% ester oil these need to have to hold additives in suspension with all PAO / Group Iv base oil, please! lol

That was one of the silliest comments I’ve seen.

By DEFINITION 5W30 oil is 5W30 oil…. or it’s Not 5W30 oil.
