My bad for not doing this a long time ago, I'm sure many members who have been involved in this are long gone. Let's get a % of current members who have had success or not success at having hemi tick eliminated by the use of redline oil. If you have actually NOT used redline, please refrain from answering the poll, I'll have an option just for you. But anyone who has had hemi tick and tried redline, please answer honestly to your result. If you are wondering why this is even a conversation, visit the syn thread for what makes redline oil different from the crowd.

Can i add to it mike?

Can we add “did redline stop your startup clatter” we all know that is a separate issue from the true “tic”. And I know a few that have use Redline: to solve that problem as well.

You sir can add anything you like! If Smiley can't do it, just add partially vote. I should have consulted a couple guys before posting.

I didn't really have much of a Hemi tick problem with my truck but it did quiet the valvetrain down immediately. Just for the hell of it I decided to try some QSUD 5W30 last oil change just for ***** and giggles and it seems to be working well after 1200 miles. When I bought the Challenger last week I immediately dumped the 5W20 whatever that was in it and put QSUD 5W30 in it. Its quieter than it was on the 5W20 but not Redline quiet. No Hemi tick but not that Redline buttery smooth for sure. It will definitely get Redline 5W30 in 3K miles. Looking back at the Ram more than likely there's still plenty of that Redline Moly still coating everything even after 1200 miles.

Never had a tick problem on mine, but i drove it 120 miles home from the dealer, and immediately dumped the factory oil/filter and put 5W-30 Redline in it.Did try PUP 5W-20 in the wifes Challenger on it's first change, and the car didn't really care for it,so it's now on a diet of 5W-30 Redline and is a lot quieter then it was on PUP 5W-20.When we did the cam swap on mine at 30,000 miles the original cam was still like new,and that cam/lifters are now in a buddies truck and he's put another 50,000 miles on them, but I got him converted to Redline too.

Royal Purple eliminated it for me with the mopar filter but recently switched to their filter too.

PUP would dry tick for a couple seconds if not driven daily at startup.

Good find Dex, can you bring this stuff to the syn thread. The purpose for this thread is just to get the numbers on redline versus hemi tick, not other products. But I actually like your find, and syn thread is the place for it, thanks

RL 5-30 made my valvetrain quieter as well.

PUP 5-20 was the worst, PYB 5-20 wasnt too bad until about 2500 miles on the oil, then it was on-par with PUP 5-20. Oddly enough, the factory fill (which I presume to be Pennzoil Gold) was the quietest of the Pennzoil oils Ive used.

I have not yet tried the old formula QSUD, I have some in 5-20 and 5-30, but RL seems to work so well I dont want to mess around. *Maybe* try RL 5-20 during the winter, eventually.

Isn't the mfg recommended weight 5W20?

You went with a heavier weight.

The question is: wouldn't any 5w30 oil had the same effect?
