Code was misfire cylinder 3 (p0303 I believe). It was caused by camshaft wear and exhaust valve not fully opening. As far as the drop in oil pressure I believe that is due to the fact that there is oil pressure that goes through the push rods and keeps the lifters pumped up. As the parts wore...
Ya, to be honest it was ticking for a while but I ignored it, thinking it was the exhaust manifold issue coming back. Then I noticed my oil pressure starting to drop off. I only drove a total of about 10 miles after the check engine light came on, as the oil pressure was continuing to drop...
I remember the lifters were pretty slippery with oil when I pulled them up out of the holes. The lifter that failed was still pumped up, the roller bearing just wore out.
I appreciate all the help from Burla, Wild One, and the ramforum community as a whole. I bought a pretty beat up truck a couple years ago. Had to rebuild the front end, fix broken exhaust manifold bolts and now the cam and lifters. Could not have got through it all without the info on here. The...
The lobe with the pitting was cyl 7. No symptoms on that cylinder. Frozen lifter/ground cam lobe was cyl 3 which is where the noise and misfire code was.
Got it put back together today and after lifters pumped up it’s running good and oil pressure back up. How would I go about flushing the engine? Just do another oil change?
Got parts today so I pulled the camshaft and remaining lifters. Camshaft is trash with one lobe worn down about 1/8”. Also had pitting on a cyl 7 lobe.

Ok, so did some more digging and looks like those cam and lifters would "fit" but there were a couple guys (on another "forumz") that had some misfire issues after switching to non mds lifters. One guy went with mds cam/non mds lifters, other guy went with non mds cam/lifters but both had...
Can you please quote on all the parts that I would need to do mds delete on 2011 Ram 1500 5.7L. Including:

Water pump gasket
Valve guide seals
Mds plugs.

Crank bolt
Oil pump?

Thanks Wild one, I will look into that. I had been looking for the hellcat lifters and everyone is sold out. Dealer here is way too high. How can I find Benny on here?
ya I read about that last night I think.
I read about that last night. Sorry about your luck but the engine swap probably a good call. Hope all goes well
If you look closely at the picture you can see that cam was contacting the shoulders of lifter. I did get misfire code for that cylinder and not considering reusing the camshaft , just don’t know if it’s worth looking at aftermarket cam. The tuner that I have doesn’t allow for custom tunes so I...
2011 with 5.7 Hemi. 156k miles. I disabled the mds last year (with Superchips tuner) due to a noise when it engaged 4cyl mode. Read that it could be cam phaser.
I recently heard tapping sound so pulled cylinder head and found seized lifter bearing. I’d like to get parts on the way ASAP but not...
