What is the white plastic at the top of my springs and is it needed? It looks like it is falling off and my truck makes a creaking noise when I start and stop

Looks like a Teflon insulator. On my Jeep forum some folks don’t replace them when they lose one or replace springs. Probably for reducing metal to metal contact and wear. Could be your noise. Spray a liberal amount of silicon lube in there and see if your noise goes away.

Thank you. I’m planning on cutting off the loose end. I will try the silicone lube and see if that fixes it.

It won’t fix it. The lube will just quiet it down enough so you can say that is the noise. You’ll have to get it back in position.
