I plan on putting a subwoofer in my 2013 1500 crew cab. I can't decide on a 10" or 12" single sub. Any opinions?

Either is fine. A 12" of the same brand and model will move more air than a 10. But a 12 obviously also takes more room. If it were me, id go with a 10 for inside a truck. But I'm 29 not 18 I like to crank it up sometimes but I'm not trying to have it rattle the truck apart.

I personally enjoy 10's. If you listen to a wide variety of music, then you will see a pretty good compromise across the board. 8" subs are amazing when listening to hard and fast bass lines found in hard rock / metal. They are smaller and have the ability to move quicker. When listening to pop, and rap that typically has a slower bass line the 12" will shine as it can move more air, and give you a harder punch. The 10's sit right in the middle giving you a little of both. For the amount of space in the cab, and sound ability. I would go for a 10.

Honestly it depends on the sub. I have an 18 that will hit quicker and more accurately than most 8s on the market. If you buy a quality sub and correct enclosure for it my recommendation is get the most cone area you can and not ever regret not getting a bigger sub.

For the air space, if it's going under the seat then definitely go for a 10". I put 2 12's under my back seat and they sound anywhere near what a friends 2 10's sound like under the seat. Shallow sub would be a good option as well, 1 shallow 10" would be bangin'

Good info guys. Thanks. Now....subwoofer brands. What's your all preferred brand? I will probably go with a 10" single.

So many out there it's hard to say. You need to find the box you want to run then buy a sub that fits the air space. Net audio let's you get normal depth subs in or make your own. Fox box is ok just never got subs to sound "right" in them.

I'd go with the 12" sub, but the sub has to be appropriate for the enclosure you run. 8's or 10's being "faster", or "punchier" or "better for metal" is the oldest sham in the book....it's a 25 year old theory that has been proven incorrect for years. Back in the 90's this may have been true, but only due to the exceptionally large enclosures bigger subs used to run or be modeled after...things have changed, air space requirements have changed, technology has improved. A well modeled 12" or 15" will be just as "quick" as any 8" on the market. But it comes down to which sub, and the enclosure specifications. All things being equal, a 12" will sound better, fuller, dig deeper, and be more comfortable going super low than any 10 or 8....and a 12" will not need to be pushed as hard for the same output as a 10"....the sub/enclosure combo is key

I like Arc Audio

I second the 12"...I have a net audio enclosure with a JL tw3 and it hits nice in the smaller cubic enclosure. I prefer the 12" for a single sub.

What size and brand of sub is a tough question we see on this board a lot. Many people have their favorite brands or won't touch a particular brand due to a bad experience in the past. It would also depend on what type of sound, how loud you want it to be, and your budget. I had some very good results with JL Audio subs in the past so when it came time build my 2014 CC audio system using one of their subs was a no brainer for me. With some wheeling and dealing on eBay, I ended up with a JL Audio StealthBox which houses a 10w3v3-2. I used one of their amps to put 300w RMS to it and it sounds fantastic... Nice deep bass or punchy depending in the style of music I am playing. I am going to be 49 next month so there is plenty of volume and bass for my tastes; however, when I see videos on YouTube of hot chicks having ******* from 30,000 watts of bass, makes me wonder if I really have enough :p

For my Ram build, I'm going with a single 10" as my builds are more SQ then SQL. It's not to say they don't hit hard as my Legacy runs a single 15", it's about again what sub you use. I'm using one of my 10s and I have 2 more nib if you are in need. :)

I went with a single JL 12W6V3 in a Net Audio tall box being fed by a Zapco Z-1KD and it plays low, loud, fast and clean.

^^^ It's funny that you've mentioned that Zapco, as I have a nib one sitting in my audio room. That as well as a Zapco (6) channel will be going into my Ram.

Oh wow mine is the 150.6LX version hahahaha, how funny is that. Normally I hide all of my gear but in this instance. I'm trying things a little different. Plus this will be my first Zapco amp build. :)

To bring this back on track, @rg6guy, what type of music do you listen to and at what volumes?

Now for this question....dual ohm sub or single. I am not looking for radical bass just good audiophile bass.
