Question for the 4X4 geniuses! looking into a 3rd gen 4x4, pretty much awesome condition everywhere, but mileage is at roughly 100K ... I've heard on pretty much any 4X4 at 100K you might not want it... I know I know it all depends on who cared for those 100K and all, but in general, what have the experienced 4X4 people experienced about this?

I had a 2003 Dakota for 10 years, and at 100k the 4x4 worked fine. I live in Canada and would snow plow in winter, so 4x4 was used quite frequently during its service.

if the truck comes from Texas where 4x4 was only used once a year I'd be concerned. Otherwise they are solid.

Does the truck have service records? If its been getting inspected and serviced regularly I wouldn't be afraid of it.

Got mine at 99,978 and it runs great. 4wd works great too. Not many service records but only issue so far is the need to change stock shocks, plugs and maybe ball joints n tie rods next spring. General maintenance.put it in 4wd and drive around a dirt or grass lot. Listen for odd noises or clunking and grinding.

160K on my '06 and I've had to replace front axle joints, tie rod ends and drive shaft universal joints. However, not a single glitch with the 4WD system.

Same here, 4x4 works great at 160k miles as well.

Got my latest 4x4 ram around 110k. No issues. Buying a used vehicle is hit or miss. There's no particular milage where they're guaranteed to fall apart. I've seen lemons with 60k miles

I just bought mine at 170000 miles and the drive train is in very good condition, nothing clunking or feeling even loose under the truck. However being from Canada the underside of the truck is rusted as hell, bur I'm working on that. 4x4 and axles are A1. As mentioned before, buying used is hit or miss, and sometimes even with a keen eye and good knowledge you can get both extremes of a great deal or a clunker...

I guess it depends what it was used for. Mine is an '04 and a daily driver, serviced regularly and has 126000 and still rides like the day I got it. VERY happy with it.

Bought my 2006 4x4 with 120,000. Pretty much rock solid, no major issues yet!

if youre willing to spend some money have it freshened up..new diff fluid and filter front and rear, new tranny fluid and transfercase fluid and maybe new bearings and tie rods and maybe springs and you should be alright no matter how little or how much it was beat on

Mine has 171000 on it and still works great. I have a seal on the front axle that needs attention, otherwise all is good.

I bought mine at 94k and the only thing that has broke on it was the driver side wheel bearings. The dealer took care of for me under the warranty. Now i have 110k on it and have not had any problems. Love my truck.

I just bought an '07 with 103k miles, so far so good. The only issue I have is creaking on the front suspension. I think I need to grease the front end or something. Maybe grease the coils or something. Runs great and the interior is like a brand new truck. Just check it out and drive it before you buy. See if they will let you take it over the weekend before you buy. I have done that before.
