I'd assume it'd be just like any other trans service. Drop the pan, replace the filter and gasket, fill it back up. That's what I do anyways. If you do that every 30-40k you'll be replacing enough of the fluid to avoid having a flush done.

It looks like he has a 6 speed. What's the manual say for service and plugs are supposed to be changed at 30k.

Yeah I have a 6Speed... I also didnt get a chance to look in the manual.... I will check it out. I guess I was looking more of "is it something I can do myself? Being moderately mechanically included. If so, anything I should look out for/ be cautious of.

I want to say the manual recommends 60k service on the transmission. I do mine at 30k with the diff gear oil, brake flush and plugs. Knock it all out.

Doing the trans is easy. Get a big catch pan to put under it. Unbolt the trans pan bolts, but not all the way. Gently pull one corner down and let it drain. Once no more is coming out then drop the pan completely. Swap out the filter, replace the gasket and bolt it back up. Fill it back up then start it. Have someone sit in the truck, hold the brake and put it in gear. Keep measure fluid level and adding until it's topped off. That's it.

Doing this doesn't get the fluid out of the torque converter. But if you do it every 30k it won't matter. Enough fluid is being replaced that the fluid won't have time to become worn out.

This is a video on an '01, but the concept is the same.

My 08 Silverado wasn't due for transmission service till 100k. 30k miles is not very many miles. As far as the differential fluid being changed, mine will be traded off by then. I get rid of all my trucks at a 100k. When I had my 03 Cummins I think they wanted the differential fluid changed at 20k. I never changed it and have never had differential problem.

I cant speak for a '14, but with my old '08 I did all of the maintenance at 60k. All fluids flushed and refilled. at 65k the torque converter started acting up, the shifter gasket leaked, and the rear diff gaskets started to leak. So in hindsight, I plan to do all the drains and refills at 30k.

There is no gasket, factory uses RTV and you should too. It makes a better seal on the pan.

Use factory filters from your local dealership parts counter.

IMHO, usage should be taken into consideration regarding service intervals,,,
Towing/Racing/Severe Service requires more attention. 'Driving Miss Daisy' should be completely fine with Manufacturers recommended intervals.

6 speed vs 8 speed makes a difference as well. The 8 is a sealed unit. Adding/checking fluid in a 6 is a cakewalk compared to an 8.

Don't be jealous of our plastic tranny pans!

If yours is a 6 speed 2013, you have 2 filters. The normal flat filter and a spin on. In my experience, it doesn't matter what size drain pan you have your going to spill some of the fluid on the ground and on you. I could never understand why they don't put a drain plug in that pan?????????? Have some kitty litter handy :)

LOL!

I tell folks it's made of a special high tech, lightweight, non-conductive, non-magnetic, non-corrosive compound!!! :roflsquared:

Hah, very high tech. I am engineer, this is EXACTLY where the drain plug is supposed to go. Always design things behind other things.

Thanks Riccochet that was very helpful!

I just did this. One thing I would like to add is go get a kiddy pool from Walmart to catch all the tranny fluid because it will make a mess. It made the project so much easier. And we don't use gaskets anymore, the dealer gave me a sealer. Drop the pan, pull Both the filters, one is a pan filter (held on by 1 T25) one is a spin on filter (PITAss to get off). After that I let the tranny drain all night and got exactly 2 gallons of fluid = 8 quarts.
I would highly recommend a wire brush to get all the old sealer off the pan and tranny. Good luck:favorites13:
