Hi all,

Winter will shortly be upon here in PA, and, I was wondering if, in addition to some weight in the back of the truck, running the truck in 4-Hi for extended periods is likely to cause any damage to the drivetrain/4wd system. My Challenger will be getting put away for the winter and I intend on driving the Ram exclusively, and, in all probability in 4WD mode.

Regards,

Jake

as long as you don't use 4 hi excessively on dry pavement you will be fine. With using 4 high i have never needed to put extra weight int he bed of the truck

Don't turn on dry pavement. With weight in the bed, dont use 4x4 until you feel it's needed. Other than that...enjoy being able to do what cars cant

When you need it, ie your rear spins or the entire road is snow and or ice covered. If you see pavement on the ground 2wd is all you need. And I have never felt the need for more weight in the back for traction there but then again its all about the tire choice. 4Wd is meant for up to 50 mph unless your doing a 4hi 0-60 or whatever.... Any which way you,ll be fine just watch out for the semi drivers that pass you in the middle of the road.

If this year is anything like this past winter you wont need it
Of you have a 4auto you can leave it in that at times your trying to be cautious but don't leave it in 4 hi unless the roads are completely snow covered basically
If te tires can't slip easily you will wreck your front end

4 auto is great for roads that have a lot of clear spots and not so good spots

and last winter in PA sucked. I got a 4x4 again and we didn't get any snow to play in

I live in PA and I can relate...I go through a lot of salt in the winter so I usually have at least two 50 lbs bags in the back which means most time I don't need 4wd. If it's really bad in general I use 4Auto and if I need it to get up something specific I use 4HI...really hoping we get some snow this year...
