You'll have a higher payload and towing capacity with the 2500. If your going to be towing about a 7K trailer with either one of them, it will probably be similar leaning a little towards the 1500. You'll have to dial the WDH in a little better but your also close to 2K lbs lighter with the 1500 and it has the 8spd.

Your half ton will pull just as good maybe a tiny bit better than a 3.73 6.4.

But control wise no comparison.

My previous 1/2 ton was 5.7 3:55

My current 3/4 ton is 6.4 4:10

The 3/4ton don’t have to work as hard is the only difference I can tell.

Thanks and I was mainly referring to towing , is there a big difference between the two. I'm looking at a 2500 , but wasn't sure if it was worth it or not.

"towing" is still REALLY broad - starting? stopping? braking? handling? ride? There's a lot going on while towing. In a nutshell the power between the two is going to be pretty similar. That's where the good news ends for the 1500 v 2500. A 1500 honestly shouldn't even be in the same discussion with a 2500 in terms of every other aspect of towing. Of course, a lot also depends on what you are towing? Trailer type? weight?

We love to help but need some more info.....

If you need tow more, 2500 would be a better choice.

2500 has a little longer wheelbase and combined with the extra weight they handle trailers much better.

At the moment I'm pulling a 20ft open trailer with 2 sxs and looking at a toy hauler or camper and curious between my truck now vs the 6.4 gas (cause I'm looking a one at a great deal) , or just wait and get a diesel.

How much towing do you really do? Love the look of the 2500 but with the with fuel cost. I will be happy with 1500

That all depends on what configuration your referring to. My CC w/6.4' bed 1500 has the same wheelbase as the 2500 in the same configuration, only the CC 8' bed is longer. Sadly most 1500 are CC w/5.7' bed and the only way to get an 1500 w/8' bed is in a 2 door.

All true statements but the 2500 does weigh more and the extra heft helps control the loads.

My comment was more generalized as the CC 1500 is far and away the volume seller.

I had a Gen 3 HD (140.5” wb) and traded it for a Gen 4 (149.5” wb) and the slight bump in wheelbase made a noticeable difference towing my 34’ TT.

Are both 5.7. I was comparing 5.7 to 6.4. Gas. Here in Ontario a lot only have 1500. But I feel and see more and more 2500 6.4. In Western ny and upper PEN have 2500 As daily driver.

Ps love the profile pic

Our 2500 is the 6.4. I drive the 2500 daily and my wife drives the 1500 (she admittedly has a heavy foot for some reason). Even on the highway they're very similar on the rare occasion we aren't in traffic (both usually at 21mpg on the EVIC around 70mph). She has 3.21s with the 8 speed and I have 4.10s. I could probably squeak out an extra 1-2mpg in her truck and she could probably kill mine by a couple mpg (dunno how she does it).

Once again opinions are like certain parts of your anatomy.

I was in a similar situation when I ordered my first and last new truck, a 2018 Ram 2500 at age 69. I did not have anything to tow or haul at the present but have in the past. I live in Texas. I am retired. My wife and I love to travel. I have three adult daughters and two granddaughters. I had no idea what I would be doing or who would be going with me from here on out. We keep vehicles until they are worn out.

Over the years I have had trucks under powered and/or too small to tow a large trailer or a large boat. I regretted it. As I tell people: I do not know when I may make a run to the Rockies in the winter nor do I know what I might buy to haul/tow so I bought the 2500 crew cab with 4x4 so I would not be restricted plus I could afford it and they make it.

Yes it may be a rougher ride. Yes it is a big "man truck". Yes the 6.4 Ram 2500 probably gets worse mpg than a 1500. But I bought a truck for a truck, not economy nor to ride like my old Lincoln Town Car. I am from the time when a half ton pick up with a 350 got 10 mpg solo running an axel in the low 3's.

This truck has the 3.73 gears. Running the air and figuring with pencil and paper I get 15 to 16 mpg running interstate speeds. The computer shows better. In the mountains with no load and lower speeds I have seen 18+ but that was not the norm. I could see no difference with 87 octane (acceptable by the book) or 89 octane. Probably with a load the 89 might be best. The wife's mini van only gets 20 to 23 running interstate speeds.

Each person must research the options available and match it with their needs or future needs. If you change vehicles often you can always move up or down if the needs change.

yes, you get what you pay for. Everything is beefier on the 2500. The frame, the axles, the springs, the steering links, the tow hitch. Everything.

I traded in my new 2015 1500 for a 2015 2500 because no matter what I did I didn't like the way the ride felt pulling my TT and wouldn't compromise my family safety for it.

If I had it to do over I might even go with a 3500 dually. I pull a 6800lb dual axle TT. Even with the 2500 you can feel it behind you. I call BS on anyone who says they can hardly tell the trailer is behind them. It just ain't so.
