This is the first new vehicle I have ever purchased.

I am completely let down by Ram and the quality of the brake parts used!

I pulled the brakes apart last year at 14K due to the rears pulsing (felt in the peddle/seat vs steering wheel) and cleaned lubed everything. This made it much smoother but the pulse came back and is bad now.

The front was squealing real bad, took them apart and the pads were frozen in the slides....had to pry them out with a 2' screw driver! Cleaned them all up, files the tabs on the pads to increase the tolerance and lubed up the pads/slide so they were free to move, also lubed the back of the pad against the pistons.

Now, 6 months later and I have to bite the bullet and do new rear rotors and pads, and I am replacing hte front pads due to the squealing being back.

Sorry to rant, but with a $52K price tag I should not need to do this type of work this soon on a new truck! There are clear contaminants in the rotors that reflect very low quality steel used (I.E. china steel used??)

Dealer/Chrysler confirmed they are not covered under warranty.

WOW sorry for your bad luck--my 16 Sports has 50k on it and I still have plenty of pad left all the way around. Maybe being in Texas and not having to drive through all the snow, salt and slush and crap might have sometime to do with the difference????????

46k miles on my 2014 and my rotors are just now showing signs of being slightly warped.

I am sure its a combo of things, poor quality parts, living in the salt belt and a short around town commute.

Sorry to hear that. Doesn't sound right. Just hit 106k on my 2014 SLT stock breaks. Due for replacement, but they still have about 5-10% life left. A lot of highway miles, but still..

that sucks. i got about 50k on mine just started getting pulsing in the rear. Normally factory brakes are pretty good. its not actually a Ram thing its more of a truck thing. when you do not carry weight in the back of your truck the rear rotors wear uneven. if you switch to drill or slotted or both rotors in the rear it will definitely help in the future. Either way i know it sucks to dump that much money into something that should not happen. Try ordering some after market pads and rotors. Stop tech makes some pretty good stuff.

What lb/ft spec have you been torquing your wheels to?

I have a 2016 1500 sport too and my front brakes started squeaking terribly after 30,000km. And I also had a caliper slide pin seize up at 50,000km on the front passenger side.

Replaced all 4 rotors and pads with EBC stage 3 slotted/dimpled rotors and greenstuff pads. Been extremely happy since.

Hate See folks having issues like this, I got 86k out of mine, just replaced them about a month ago.

Truth be told, they would have made it a bit longer but the fronts had a very slight shimmy at higher speeds as they were starting to warp.........

Northern states are more rust prone. One would hope the manufacturers would consider that in their design. Don't you have to go through a desalination process after each winter to prevent rust from forming on the chassis and wheel components. Glad you gave a heads up on this problem.

From FCA
Certain Kinds of Corrosion Not Covered. Your warranty does not cover the following: (a) corrosion caused by accident, damage, abuse, or vehicle alteration; (b) surface corrosioncaused by such things as industrial fallout, sand, salt, hail, oceanspray, and stones; (c) corrosion caused by the extensive or abnormal transport of caustic materials like chemicals, acids, and fertilizers; and(d) corrosion of special bodies, body conversions, or equipment that was not on your vehicle when it left the manufacturing plant or was notsupplied by FCA

Took apart the rear again and cleaned/checked everything....pulse is drastically reduced but still there....said F it and ordered the Powerstop Z36 F/R kit (pads, rotors, hardware).

Very disappointed and let down by the factory components!

I'm about to pull the trigger on that exact system. If you could report back your results on the Power stop items, i would be very appreciated.

I asked another member that has been running them for a bit (see right bellow), they are very happy with them which convinced me to buy them.

Mine were pulsing terribly at 14k, I have friends who had them 100% replaced for free at ram because it was within 12 months of purchase. I bought mine with 12k on it and 18 months so I didn't qualify. Unsure if it was a ram initiative or a great dealer reacting to a known issue.

I had a sledge hammer out getting those rotors out, I hear you. I would highly recommend white lithium grease and never seize any and all metal contact points Wenger threaded or not for next brake servicing, makes everything so much easier when parts come apart the way they should. Also caliper grease the slides, sliding pins, backs of pads etc, all moving parts of the brake caliper. I regrease annually, but I tow a lot with kids in tow so safety is utmost on my end.

For reference I've had 6 piston baer and wildwood high-end breaks setups on track cars, and these rotors seem very close in quality. Definitely a bargain as they cost roughly stock but are great in all conditions and stent finicky. They have great feel, immediate bite but not dramatic, extremely linear. A year later and I think how great they are all the time when just commuting. They can stop extremely hard if you mash the pedal, i never tested this before an incident requiring me to actually do it, quite dramatic, but when you need to stop, they will. Plating also looks great after a salt filled winter so i expect to get at least 7 years out of them, maybe need pads, they still look new though.

I shopped around a while and three bang for the buck is worth it, I'm not wealthy but will pay for quality. 2k set up won't offer anything more than these. I was tempted to do stainless brake lines but decided to see how the brakes felt over stock, I'm glad I didn't, there is nothing needed more than they offer.

Good luck.

I am convinced there was a bad batch of components used from the factory, my rotors have a bunch of contaminants in the steel
