Ok guys, so I just finished installing a jet 180* T-Stat and have a few concerns. The install was simple and according to my gauge its running cooler (pics below). Here are my concerns; 1. I probably spilled about a gallon of coolant but only put a 1/4 of a gallon back but according to the dip stick, it's at the correct level. I don't feel like that's right. 2. I put the truck on an incline let it reach to operating temperature with the radiator cap off and burped the hose but it felt empty. There was no coolant in the hose. and finally, 3. When the truck is running and is in park, the temp is at the level it was with the stock t-stat. it's not until I'm driving it the the temperature starts to go down. is that normal? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Def sounds like air in the system. I had the same problem. I tried to get it out with the rad cap off and it just kept overflowing. So I put the rad cap on and squeezed the upper rad hose and that seemed to do the trick.

If there was air it would just over heat right?

Mine didnt overheat but it was kinda erratic. It would get to 210 then down to 180 then back up to 200. Just wasnt working right with the air in it.

Yeah that's what mine was doing. I went back out and burped the hose again. I could see the coolant level go down. It took almost a gallon of the coolant this time and now the needle stays constantly in one spot.

While your ru nning down the road the coolant will flow past the thermostat and cool the truck to 180* because that's the thermostat u put in and the air is moving over the radiator to cool the coolant to that. While sitting still there is no air movement except from your radiator clutch fan. The clutch engages full at the factory set temp pf somewhere around 200*. The thermostat opened at 180 to let coolant go through but the fan doesn't kick on to pull air through until 200* so the temp is going to go up till the clutch kixks in. Then it goes baxk down till the thermostat starts to close again. The only way to fix this is with a pcm tuner and the electric fan. So u can program the fan to come on sooner. Hope that makes since.

You pretty much knew from the start that you didn't get enough coolant back in it. Time and patience prevailed.

It's been a couple days since the install and the needle is consistently in the same spot. Even at idle, it never goes any higher. I've rechecked the tightness of the thermostat housing bolts and checked the fluid level. Everything seems fine, on to the next mod.

My mechanic is recommending a 150 over a 180 does anyone agree this this?
