I am certain of the information. I have first hand, practical experience regarding operation of, and potential for damage to, the power fold mirrors.
1. I've seen the inside of those mirrors.
2. I was advised by a trained FCA tech to not manually fold the mirrors so as not to damage the gears or motor.
3. I've read my 2017 manual regarding mirror operation for manual, power and power folding mirrors (pages 109 - 111 in my manual) and I know what it says. I'd point out that 1) the first mirror operation instruction shows a mirror that is assumed to be manual fold mirror because it does not address how the power fold mirrors are operated. On the next page the manual addresses the power fold mirrors specifically and it states, "If equipped with power folding mirrors, they can be electrically folded rearward and unfolded into the drive position." The manual goes on to state that if the mirrors are folded manually they may require a reset.
In other words, it is not recommended you manually operate power folding mirrors.
