Being an owner of a '95 Dodge Ram, I've had to replace the large factory AC/Heater Knobs a few times over the years b/c of a design flaw by Chrysler. These knobs used to be so cheap, I just bought a new one without a second thought. But now days, a single Mopar replacement knob will cost between $20.00 to $30.00 on ebay or from the dealership. Or you can also buy a cheap Dorman aftermarket knob but they don't illuminate like the factory knobs.. So I decided to find a way to repair a broken knob & here's what I came-up with..
1) Use a 3/8" (inside diameter) flexible hose with an 1/2" (outside diameter).
2) Cut the hose so it's 7/16" long.
3) Slide the 7/16" hose completely down the knob's back-shaft.
4) Being the shafts are D-shaped, I used a small piece of metal to fill the void.
5) Slide the repaired knob back in place & it's as good as new.
Hope this helps anyone who's dealing with these broken knobs. (sorry for the poor quality photos)
