I have an 01 2wd 1500 Laramie, 5.2l,auto with a no bus showing on cluster.. Engine spins over fine, gauges do not move from the off position, fuel pump is not sounding off,and it refuses to fire off... So I parked it for a ew months trying to get Info on ecus ,and causes, problems, tech testing,etc... Everything checks out bueno wiring wise, and other than a broken ground wire from the negative cable to the drivers fender, which I repaired, nada else appears to be blown, not grounded,or without power...
I've found several used 56040 ecus at a reasonable cost as well as rebuilding services (both online) which both come with a 1 year warranty... Which way would you go,and why ?? Any tips,or suggestions, any reputable sources for a used,or reman ?? A brand new ecu is out of the question for this truck costwise... Thanks/Gracias...

I have a 1999 Dodge ram van 1500, 5.2 engine. About 3 years ago my computer went bad. A new one from the Dodge dealer was $1000. I bought a refurbished one off of E-bay for $150. It has worked perfectly. Another solution is a junkyard ECU. I bought a junkyard computer for $25 from a U-pull it junkyard. It was off a 2000 ram truck with the 5.2 engine and auto trans. That worked good too. So now I have a backup computer for $25.

Not sure if the OP is going to see this, but I had a bus problem in my '01 Ram maybe 10 years ago. I remember the bus being a pair of wires, purple and white maybe? I traced it everywhere under the hood and finally found that disconnecting it from the connection at the transmission brought the bus back and the instrument cluster came back. I traced the bus wires from the transmission to the main connector at the fuse box and the problem seemed to be in there. Unplugged it, it looked clean, I don't think I actually fixed anything, plugged it back in, and it's been working fine ever since.
