Long stort short my 2007 Dodge Ram megacab 4x4 5.7 hemi dropped a valve guide at 235,000 miles. A guy is selling a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 2wd hemi 5.7 motor with 90k orig miles for $1500. The Dodge dealer told me I had to use a 5.7 from a 2500 or 3500 only as my megacab is on a 2500 frame. Is there any differences in the hemi motors or a reason one wouldnt work? In my mind they should be the same motor no?

No, there is not a single difference between the two motors. It doesn't matter if the truck is a
1500/2500/3500. If you can get the truck for that price I say go ahead and snag it up.

Maybe the motor mounts are different? If you are reusing stock hardware I don't see where there would be an issue.

So will a 2012 5.7 Hemi work from a Ram 2500? Meaning plug and play into a 2007?

Would a 2005 Durango 5.7 work?

Yes, a 2005 5.7 from a Durango will be a direct plug-n-play as long as you use the coils from the 2007 motor.

Mechanically, the 2003-2008 5.7 HEMI engines are identical. The only change occurred in 2006 when Chrysler changed the coils.
