You probably don't want to hear this, but is there a way you can get a buddy or someone to read any codes? Let us know? That would be real helpful. Bc it could help narrow down the problem real quick.

In leu of that would be to narrow it down to either spark or fuel. For fuel, perhaps try pulse-squirting some starting fluid into the throttle body when it goes to 'die' ...to see if pulsing some starting fluid will keep the engine running for a bit longer (which would then point back to a fuel issue). It would be good to check fuel pressures and the pressure regulator. Fuel pump relay is another issue (was somewhat common on these years). The fuel pump relay is on the main TIPM (computer) board, some guys replace. Seems strange such a problem could occur right now, but there's a cheap bypass cable you could try.

Is the mass airflow sensor hooked up?

Check all the fuses and relays to make sure they're seated.

How hot did you get it? Check compression on all cylinders newer motors do not like to run hot aluminum heads. It is possible you blew head gasket or a intake valve seat started to drop causing multiple misfires both are common from overheating.

Google "Ram dies after starting" ...there are tons of articles and videos. There could be a few reasons why your truck is doing it, which you'll have to narrow down with a little bit of testing. I don't know but it almost sounds like it's not seeing fuel and shuts down (just a hunch). I would start by: Fuel Pressure/regulator/relay.

I would think even if the heads became warped, or it blew a headgasket, it would still run ...at least a little (and 'smoke' too!).
