2009 Charger, Alternator Hot to touch

Need help, working on sons car 2009 Charger 3.5 litre. Had to get it towed home, charged battery overnight, it did not take the charge,
Replaced battery started car, whine coming from engine bay, Alternator very hot next step replacing alternator,
Should i be looking into a short in wiring as well ?

I doubt it. Probably just the alternator. The whine is a telltale sign it's gone bad. Might consider replacing your serpentine at same time.

^^^ what he said, probably a good time to replace the serpentine belt, idler pulleys, and tensioner while you're at it.

I did all of them with my water pump and then my alternator went bad
