Hello, proud owner of a 2009 Dodge Ram Laramie with an incorrect fuel gauge reading. Issue just started last weekend. Actually ran out of gas with the gauge reading just over 1/4 tank. The 'low fuel' warning light did not come on but luckily was near a fuel station and pushed it, along with 2 other helpful dudes, to the pumps and fueled up after realizing the symptoms of no fuel. If it's the fuel level sensor, should I go ahead and buy a new fuel pump or can i just replace the sensor? Will the new fuel pump come with a new sensor?

Any other areas I need to check besides the fuel sensor? No codes came up. And yes, the gauge moves when I put fuel in the tank. Can't say its happened again because I fuel up when it nears 1/4 tank so I'm not left on side of road.

Any help appreciated..

I'm not positive on the 2009's, but my 2014 has the sender attached to the fuel pump. Mopar used to sell just the sender to be replaced, but I believe discontinued that part as a separate item. When mine quit reading the fuel level, I was over 100k miles, so I went with a new fuel pump. The labor cost the same, as the pump has to be pulled out anyway.

That's a no-brainer to me. 15 year old truck. As mentioned by @EagleChief, there's no reason not to replace both since the work to remove them is the same. It would suck to have to pull it again if the pump fails in the near future.
