Hey I'm new here and had a question for anyone who might be able to offer some advice, I have an 09 ram with fbo and I'm looking to do a cam swap next. The cam I have decided on is a bit of an aggressive one so I need my pcm flashed to a 2010. Basiaclly what im asking is do i have to send my pcm off for the reflash, take my truck to a shop that can do this, or is it basically the same as a tune where they can email it to me and use my tuner to reflash the pcm?

Why would you need the PCM flashed to a 2010 calibration ? A tuner should be able to provide a custom calibration to account for the hotter cam regardless of the base map being used for the truck.

To be honest im not completely sure why i need the reflash either, i think it has something to do with accepting the tune for the cam itself... I was looking at a Greene racing cam so I'll make sure to ask Jay why I need the reflash, he was the one who told me I needed it. I didnt question it at the time because ive actually heard the same thing for other agressive cams for 09 hemis (Chargers, challengers...). And thanks I had a feeling i could do it through my tuner just wanted to get some second opinions to make sure

Jay knows his **** in regards to the Hemi's so if he says it needs an updated base map then it needs it. He did the tunes for both of my Hemi's and I've been beyond pleased with his turn around time and the quality of the tunes. Eventually I might go with one of his cam packages if I wipe a lobe or get the itch to do more of an N/A build. I would just ask him about what specifically will need to be done in order to run the cam with his tune as well as any recommended providers if you need to ship it off. Perhaps it has to do with VVT operation in regards to his camshaft that might not be available with the 09 base map, but that's just speculation on my part.

He recommend AJ up at hemituning performance i messaged AJ, still waiting on a response but i understand hes probably busy also haha. And I can tell Jay's definitely the guy to go to about anything hemi, we've talked about everything I'll need for the cam and tune, it was this reflash that kinda threw me off a bit. I've had the itch for a while now just recently I decided to actually go ahead and do it. I think you might be on the right track with the VVT operation, I mean that makes sense. It coming from the man himself though I wasnt about to question it I know he knows whats going on haha

So do you need to send in the PCM or can you flash via the tuner?

I am in the same boat as you :)

He said for the reflash it'll be $175 but so far thats all the communication weve been able to do haha I'll keep you posted when i find out more

Not sure if the tuner can re-flash your base map to another year model. That might require more specialized equipment like a Wi-tech.

I have also heard that flashing from the 2009 to 2010 makes you lose the ability to manually shift the trans. Has anyone had this done and able to get around that?

2nd question. Could you use a refurbished 2010 PCM in the 2009 and basically achieve the same thing?

I know Kurtis Holland / Charonblk had to do a PCM swap for his new 422 supercharged build, but I was under the impression it was more to do with getting the PCM to work with a GM 4L80E transmission. You can hunt Kurtis up on Tuned Rams or High Performance Rams on facebook,he doesn't seem to hang around here much anymore.
