Yeah I guess what just confused me is I would look up tow capacities from ram and it would say one thing and then y'all informed me otherwise

Better you find out here than after you purchase a way-to-heavy 5er and realize the salesman at the dealership f'ed you on selling you something your truck can't tow safely or legally.

Just so I can follow this...

June 12, 2015 you bought a F250 PSD, but you didnt.

June 18, 2015 you bought an 08 cummins. Did you?

Jan 14, 2016 you are saying had a Tundra, but got rid of it and was looking at a 2012 cummins.

Feb 15, 2016 you were interested in getting a Duramax.

April 22, 2016 you are inquiring about 2012-2012 Ram 1500 to buy in august or September.

Now asking about 2500 5.7? Somewhere in there you were looking at F150 and a 2nd Gen Ram 1500, and asking about 3rd Gen cummins after almost buying one previously?

I can't help but scratch my head here and wonder.

Well hell, ain't that some ****. Well at the very least perhaps someone else inquiring on a 2500 5.7 Hemi will find this thread helpful

Where can I find for sure numbers cause when I searched last night. I found an 2010-2013 with 4.10 could pull 14k

And a 14-up 4.10 could only pull 13,510.

Even so, you're talking about pulling 14-15k which would completely max out even a 6.4 with the 4.10 rear end. Not a good idea.
You'd have to go with the Cummins in a 2500 to safely pull that weight. At which point you'd be much better off going with a 3500 SWD.

If you're looking for used, there really isn't a huge price difference between the two.

Just something to think about.

Okay to clarify everything. Didnt buy the cummins. Yes i was looking at all those brands etc at the time I had a bumper pull trailer weighing almost 11k unloaded, so needed something to pull it.

2 months ago we upgraded to a 5th wheel that weighs about 18k loaded up so was looking at all brands again mainly duramax and cummins and now talking about trading in our current for a lighter one.

Again like I have stated before I was looking at all brands to best suit what I need it to do. So I was also asking about the 5.7 because I don't know how light the new one may be.

I was simply asking about one truck style not trying to get asked questions on why I looked at other brands.

Yeah that's what I recently noticed, if the deal is better on a 3500 likely to go with that over 2500 for a little extra tow capacity.

Cummins or Dmax on the 2500/250 variety are going to be way overweight. I'd bet the Pin weight is over by 40%. 18K is DWR territory. The 3500 Cummins is only good for about <17K.

I don't mean to bash you but why the hell are you out there buying an 18K LB 5er, which can't be cheap, but then can't afford the proper truck to tow it with?

Actually reason we got it because we had done research and it values at a little over 30k and the dealership made a HUGE error so we jumped on it then and there. I have been trying to get a truck but had things going on so haven't been able to get one just yet. The empty is actually 16k, and when I travel I always keep tanks empty so honestly maybe looking at about 17k figure clothes, washer/dryer and propane tanks.

I almost feel a 5.7 is too small for a 2500 or more...

Had one, I can come firm that it cost you an arm and leg, and the blood of a virgin to keep running... but man when it's running it's a beast

Unless the long bed has a lot higher payload then the short bed he's still gonna be WAY over. The payload on my '13 2500 Crew Cab Short Bed 6.7 is only around 2,600 lbs. Pin weight alone on his 5'er has got to be pushing 3,600lbs. He's well into the 3500 territory. Sure the 2500 would probably haul it but I wouldn't want to be behind the wheel when something went wrong. If he can't get into a 3500 DRW and got a smoking deal on the 5er the best thing to do would be to take it to another dealer and trade it for something closer to what his current ride is rated for.
