I own a 2011 Ram 2500 SLT Big Horn with a 6.7L CTD, ~112K miles. About a year ago the CEL came on and my code reader showed P049D. Having no easy way to check if the EGR valve gap=1 (replace EGR), I opted to clean the EGR myself (Purple Power, thoroughly scrubbed, confirmed valve slid easily open/shut, new gaskets). No issues for about 6 months until again got the P049D and soon thereafter also the informational P2BAC. Eventually cleaned the EGR again but maybe 2 weeks later both codes reappeared. I had also read that the cause could be related to needed ECM flashing with latest software so contacted the local dealer. They said they would first have to run a $169 full diagnostic, where all I wanted was to confirm I have the latest software. I also tried performing a basic drive cycle yesterday to try to fully clear the code but got the CEL again in the middle of it. Suggestions of where to go from here? I want to exhaust all options prior to paying high prices at the dealership. Thanks

Have you cleaned the EGR cooler and the cross over tube? Purple Power works great for those also.

Hi @RobC100 - While I understand it is the final option, I want you to know that we are always here to provide you with an additional layer of support if you do have to address this with your dealer.

Our plan now (given the codes and their repetition) is to replace the EGR valve with a low-mileage used unit and clean the air tube. Also remove and clean the intake air horn and inspect and clean the heater grid. Will avoid cleaning the cooler as it’s a lot more work and to avoid touching the water system. Thanks for the suggestion.
