Hello all! Hope everyone is enjoy the holidays! So I need to change my diff fluid in my 2011 ram 1500 5.7 hemi 4x4. I have a few questions since I’ve never done this before. I went on o Riley’s website and they had a few different ones. I don’t do much extreme stuff with my truck no pulling trailers or really big time performance stuff. I really have a 4 wheel drive truck so I can drive in the snow and I do a lot of hunting. What kind of dif fluid do I need? And this may be really dumb but I really don’t know, if I have 4 wheel drive I have two diffs I need to change right? And it takes 3 quarters per diff? Thank you.

Any 75W90 full synthetic will work. If you have a limited slip diff. You need something that has friction modifyer.

And yes. You have two diffs. So you need to change both. I'm not sure on the fluid amiu t for 1500s.

You might as well do the transfer case while you're down there :)

not sure what the 2011 calls for but on my 2016 calls for 75-140 in the rear and 75-85 in front. if you have a limited slip rear redline that I used has the friction modifier for that as do a lot of other brands, should say on container if is for LSD. the front is just an open differential and needs no modifiers.

75w90 for front, or 75w85
75w140 for the rear
Use the right weight
While you are down there do transfer case with atf4 or redline c+, make sure you do not over tighten bolts, and take top bolt off first.

Very easy dyi project, you simply drain and then add until it comes out top hole, then button up.

You need a pump if you don't use amsoil sg, so top gear oils are amsoil sg or redline, do not buy redline with NS in title. If you get a pump, you first decide if you are buying quarts or gallons, then you just buy the gallon pump or quart pump, slippery pete makes a good pump amazon.

Or just buy otc m1 is a good choice, but I prefer redline or amsoil, it is a long story.

"Multi Use or multi purpose" gear fluids which is 99% of them on the market today have modifier in them, it is ok to use those in a limited slip or open diff, in fact they are spec'd for both. If for any reason you have shudder on new oil, then you add modifier one ounce at a time til it goes away.
