On November 27th 2012 I perchased a New 2012 Ram 1500 Express from Orlando Dodge Chrysler Jeep. In mid December of 2013 with 23k miles(well under the factory warranty) I experienced the vehicle go into "Transmission Limp Mode" and the Check Engine light came on. The vehicle would not shift up or down from (4th) gear while driving normal with no payload or towing. I made an appointment and dropped off the truck at Orlando Dodge's Service department. After having the truck for 2 days they informed me that a Factory Representative Wanda Cunningham, would need to look at the vehicle and she would'nt be available till Jan 9th 2014 Over 15 days away.
On Jan 9th I was taken into the New service managers office of Brian Menihan with Wanda Cunningham and forced to sign documents otherwise they would'nt even look at my truck.
After about an hour of going round and round with them getting nowhere, I was charged a 120.00 Diagnostic Fee to find out my truck would not be covered under the Ram Factory Warranty. Furthermore they did not provide me with a diagnostic readout to show cause not to warranty my vehicles malfunction. My truck is not driveable and is currently parked awaiting a resolution to this problem.
My understanding is that the Truck should be covered under the 3 year 36k mile and 5 year 100k mile Powertrain Warranty and the fact that the truck has an Exhaust and Drop kit should not matter because of the Magnuson Moss Act.

You sure the exhaust and lowering didn't void warranty? I would worry about the exhaust as it allows for more power, albeit minimal if you aren't tuned also. Does not sound like fun, and they should disclose everything to you.

I hate hearing things like this, it gives almost every dealership a bad rep. I think it's ********, personally a drop kit and exhaust do not cause the tranny to go into limp mode, that's a Chrysler issue and that particular dealer has a stick up their ass IMO.

Find another dealer, keep looking around for help. There are honest dealerships out there that are willing to work with you, you just have to find them. Good luck

Did they say what reason they had for voiding your warranty?

If you payed for diagnostic and they refused to give you the results you NEED to have them refund your money or call an attorney and take further action. They are stealing your money

Do not pay the Diagnostic Fee. Call Chrysler and or get a Lawyer that is a bunch of bull****. One of these days I am going to call a dealership that is involved in something like this and say I heard of your crappy service from a another member of a forum that I use frequently and see what happens. Spreading the word helps. Rant over

Unless you had a tune on the truck I don't see any reason why they shouldn't warranty the transmission. A lift and exhaust wouldn't make much difference in power to create a problem.

Have you ran your truck at the track and left racing receipts inside?

Anyway, call Chrysler about the issue and if you are to pay for the diagnostics they darn well better give you a copy of it to see the issue and why it was not covered under the warranty.

Please keep us updated.

Something doesn't sound right.

I agree. They must have suspected some sort of misuse to go through the process of calling a Chrysler rep in to inspect further. If they void a warranty they are obligated to state the reasons why. I doubt they would just void it without any explanation. A CAI and exhaust would not give them enough reason to void the entire vehicle. If that were the case, the majority of the forum members would be driving around with out a warranty as well. Before I added my CAI and muffler the dealership practically laughed at me when I asked if that would affect my warranty.

Even if you have a tune, they have to prove it was the tune, or the exhaust, or the lowering that caused it. Sure they dont have a video of you on you tube doing donuts and roasting the tires? **** I might have to take mine down now...But seriously, they cant just deny it without an explanation. If they could, all dealerships would deny the warranties.

Trying a different dealer will do nothing. His VIN will be flagged with a restriction worldwide

Im not one to usually jump on saying a lawyer.. but in this case i think its going to be necessary. The magnusson-moss (sp?) cleary states that your aftermarket parts has to be the sole reason for the item not to work in order for them to deny it.

i would start by talking to the dealer GM and bring a copy of the act with you. maybe consult a lawyer and bring them with you. they have to clearly tell you how any why your products caused the failure.

another thing is to contact your local news tell them and they will usually do an investigation and sometimes a story. they always want gossip like this to share about consumer problems.

with as many people there are on this forum im very surprised that chrysler does not have reps that will answer to these types of posts. im on a camaro forum for my '13 camaro and had issues and posted it and within a day the gm rep was on the phone getting results with the to solve the issue with the dealer. they responded long before an email to corporate did.

Looks like you have a few things added to the truck...cold this be the reason?? I would not be the first to jump on Ram until we know the whole story. Looks like you have headers, not that that is a bad thing, but maybe that lead them to investigate further?
