I took my truck to the dodge dealer for a fan resistor to change, I am sure I could have done it and I didn't. But when you go to the dealer they always look for stuff going on with your truck! I hate that when they do that. Here is what they are making a big deal, is this an issue? I have seen alot of RAMS looking like this on the road, must be a RAM thing

Yeah man. Your diff is leaking oil... not a huge issue and fairly easy if it’s just the gasket. Pull it. Replace gasket, inspect and refill the diff. I’d def pull plug and check oil level.

Thanks for the reply, yea I never saw any oil on the ground, and the other thing is I took to this one dodge dealer and I know they took this cover off it was March 2017 and I would think they would have records of this but they didn't write anything up on it. I took it in because it was making a noise in the rear like a humm like my 2004 did.

This.

Not a big deal at all. Maybe an hour of your time to remedy.

It’s easy to pull, drain, clean the cover, reinstall, and refill with fresh fluid.

It’s cake man. Check YouTube.

Well when you don't have mechanic tools, it might be a little more of an issue. Wish I had a buddy that had a garage I would gladly be the grease monkey! But I don't so thanks for your thoughts on this so really this is all that needs to be done. Dodge makes it sound like its a huge problem then the next day they call wanting me to trade in my truck because they want it after seeing it!

Lol of course that want ya to trade haha. It really shouldn’t be an issue. A socket and a scraper to clean gasket. I did mine in my driveway. It’s really just a lot of bolts. I think dealer quoted me like 200-300 if I remember right lol.

Make sure all the bolts are tight. I've had several cars that leaked like that because cover was never retorqued. If tight and still leaks easy fix as noted. Ramps or jackstands help but can do it without

Yea this is why I am taking it somewhere that I can watch them and make sure its all tight n stuff. I say if you have the tool to do things then that is half the battle! I do really appreciate these forums so we can share our thoughts and pics!

well just wanted to give an update, I took my truck to Pep boys, told them what dodge was going to do my rear end for that was like 300+ dollars! so all they said was there was a nut loose so they just drained the oil and refilled it for 100 bucks! they used synthetic oil. The mechanic said I am the only one in 10 years that have asked for this type of oil change! Crazy how some don't care about their truck!

Seems like you had it serviced before and they didn't clean out the bolt holes before they bolted it back up. If there is any old gasket or brake clean in the holes it gives a false torque reading. Hopefully its no longer an issue
