Looks like dieelectric grease so the rubber doesn't bake to the plug making it miserable to get it off.

Weird. Any burn or carbon trail marks on the plug or lead? Sometimes they will short out but hardly show anything but a black line.

Inside the spark plug hole thing (don’t know the correct terminology) there’s a bunch of what looks like carbon at the base of the spark plug. This truck also has a tick from hell when it’s starts up, that’s ironically coming from the same side and at the front of the eng. My theories is that it’s loose, and when the engine heats up it expands and stops making what sounds almost exactly like spark tick.

edit: i have to wait to get a thin walled spark plug bit.

Yeah if there's carbon trails and stuff it wouldn't hurt to change the plugs and wires especially if they're not new anyways. If they're new just change the plug and see if it changes. Might be bad out if the box or may have been damaged during install.

I had to grind a thinwall plug socket down slightly to do the plugs on my old 4.7.They sure don't allow you much room to get the plugs out on a 4.7 that's for sure. It doesn't hurt to put a bit of Di-electric grease on the body of the plug on a 4.7,as they are famous for tearing the plug boot .Just a light finger smear on the porcellicin part of the plug is all you need.I'd also put a little bit of anti-seaze on the plug threads too. A short chunk of 3/8" fuel line hose stuck on the plug makes then easy to re-install if you don't have a magnetic plug socket,Stick the hose on the plug, drop it into the hole and it'll have enough grip to start the plug in the threads.

Yeah that’s what i’m gonna do once COVID passes. I’m planning on doing a complete tune up once that happens, down to replacing the timing chains.
