You all are not, wrong, but not going in proper order.

Increases with speed, disappears after 10 mph. Broken exhaust bolt.

For my money, I’d get that manifold planed flat and the broken bolt replaced before doing ANY further diagnoses. It’s easier and cheaper than the other potential fixes and its noise will continue to interfere with any other diagnoses, if needed.

Really? You may be right but we will see. I ordered all the parts last week to do the cam and lifters. I ordered a no tune cam from MMX. My son did it on his truck like a year ago. He’s going to do mine with me helping, so I’m not going to turn that down. He’s 20 and can crawl around a lot easier than this 50 + year old can.

Positive I want to go ahead and do all the timing stuff new and install the hellcat oil pump. My compression looked good on all the cylinders on the passenger side. He put a new water pump in for me a few months ago along with a new radiator. The truck has 177k on it now so I don’t see what it can hurt besides my wallet. But thanks for the reply, if it was my busy season I would probably try your suggestion.

If we find anything else going wrong then we will address it then.

If you're hung up on the hellcat pump, install the bypass spring from your original pump in the hellcat pump, otherwise there's a good chance you'll have oil pressure codes.
With 177,000 on it,you might want to also replace the valve springs, they do fatigue and wear out over time

I’m guessing it’s normal to break some stuff when you’re working on a 12 year old truck that hasn’t been wrenched on much. Still sucks though when you break stuff you weren’t intending to fix. It’s down to the point of pulling the heads off in the morning. I have to drive a ways in the morning to get a part from the only dealer around that has one, I guess it’s called the intake manifold actuator. My son was trying to separate the connector and the piece just broke off. We also had a couple coil packs that didn’t want to come off and broke and the harmonic balancer decided to break off a chip when we put a puller on it. I’m chalking it up to heat and age. Hopefully we don’t break anything else.

I thought about trying to clean up the two coil packs and getting new boots but there is a lot of corrosion on them. My house flooded two years ago and tried to again two months ago, so I’ve driven through high water a few times. Is it worth the effort or just replace them? They aren’t that expensive, the actuator kinda hurts the wallet a bit though. Everything is starting to add up.

Don't get sucked into aftermarket coils, stick with OEM coils from the dealer /Rock Auto etc. The aftermarket coils are famous for going south, plus the stock coils are good to well in excess of a 1,000 hp.

Have you tried asking a Ram tech. who has worked on these vehicles for a while, their opinion? Sometimes something like this has been observed before.

I agree. I know of too many bad experiences with aftermarket coils. They are often future misfires-in-a-box.

Found a little bit of metal in the oil pan. There was 1 lifter bad. It did a number on that cam lobe. I can’t believe I wasn’t misfiring at all. There were like 3 small flakes of metal in the vvt solenoid screen. All the other lifters looked good.

I bought an aftermarket coil but I’ll get a mopar one as soon as I can. Hope to have it buttoned back up tomorrow. Had to weld a couple broken studs out of the exhaust. Just need to finish changing out the valve springs and get the heads back on.

Ask the Ram Tech about what? Not sure what you mean.

I haven't priced out the SRV actuator for quite a few years, holy crap they've gone right through the roof in price lately.

I ordered the spring compressor from mmx and the threads have stripped out after only 9 springs done? Wtf … I ended up looking things up right now and it looks like they resell a $25 tool from Amazon for $147. I’m so pissed right now. What a pos. So much for me trusting mmx ever again.

I kept spraying it down with pb blaster every couple of springs. I’m going to have to tap it and get a new bolt.

Use anti-seaze on the bolt instead of PB Blaster

My guess he was talking about needing PB to remove bolt? Man how much easier everything would be if they used anti seize on everything in the first place.

You might want to do a thread insert/heli-coil etc,and a good quality grade 8 bolt, and that should give you alot of life out of the tool
