2013 Ram P1004 Short Runner Issue Please Help!

So recently my 2013 Ram 2500 5.7 came up with a P1004 code (Short Runner Valve control performance) and so after taking it to the the dealer they recorded an SRV valve actuator failure and replaced the srv $301. Check light back on, returned to dealer and they said it needed an intake manifold which was on back order, but when it arrived and they installed it 2 weeks later, still a check engine light for p1004. They said they tested the srv, tested circuits and removed the throttle body to inspect the srv actuation. So they ordered a new pcm, programmed it and installed. Still a P1004 code $523. One more time to the dealer and got the last invoice (picture posted very bottom) $847. I feel like they’re just throwing parts at this truck at my expense and still haven’t, in fact, found a solution. Plus this star company they contacted, without seeing the vehicle just advised to replace the entire wiring harness? At 36,000 miles and this truck has always been well taken care of and garage kept? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I had a very similar issue with my truck back in 2016. The code was P2008 but it was the same SRV. They had to rewire a bunch of things and I haven't had an issue with it since. Since your truck is also a 2013 it might be worth checking my thread out:

Thank you for the response and that is a similar situation for sure but I don’t see any signs nor did the dealer of mice or anything that could have damaged the harness. This truck gets driven daily since I’ve had it and is garage kept. I just don’t see how the wiring harness could be “corrupted” as Star calls it (without even seeing it).

A lot of vehicles are sold that develop common issues due to defects in parts or just a defective design. Not every vehicle will develop those common issues though, some may never. That’s why there is warranty. Warranty doesn’t last forever though. Can’t expect a manufacture to warranty parts forever, even if it is a common issue.

I know the SRV tsb’s you’re referring too, and it’s not that common of an issue. In the past 10 years I’ve only run into those issues a few times.

Thanks and I understand that I guess a I just needed to vent. It’s not the first time I’ve had a car problem come up and just miss the warranty period. It’s like they know It seems pretty easy fix so I guess I’ll add it to the to do list.

I did find out that there is a TSB out for a strap on the gas tank and that’s under warranty still. Guess I’ll be crawling underneath tomorrow to check the strap.

So this code just popped up on my way home. And like you Eric. I was giving it a little bit of gas passing somebody.

From google this looks to be common on other mopar engines but not the hemi.

Like Eric. What is the fix? I can't find much when it relates to the hemi.

The 6.4 manifold off the 2500's isn't a bad upgrade,other then that you have the new Holley ****** street or race intake / the Victor 2 from Edelbrock etc., but I wouldn't recommend them on a basically stock 5.7.

I have a 2009 1500 hemi with 111,000 miles. After hard acceleration I get a p1004 short runner valve control performance and a p300 multiple cylinder misfire. This has been going on for about 6 months. Truck did shake initially when this first started happening. Codes clear on their own after a few days if I don't floor it. Also gas mileage has gotten worse. I have used fuel injector cleaner (redline). It seems to idle and run fine until heavy acceleration. Spark plugs were changed in the last 5000 miles and issues happened before the plug change. No cylinder specific P300 codes just p300. Any ideas? I still have the unlimited powertrain warranty included when I purchased the truck new in 2009.

It is still running but the p1004 pops up occasionally under hard acceleration.
There is a tsb on this issue and I need to take it in but I hate dealing with my local dealer as they are always trying to rip me off, charge me for diagnostics when I already have the code. Unfortunately they are the only dodge dealer within 100 miles.

Hi Raaammmathorn I have a similar problem with my 2014 Ram 1500 5.7L gas engine with 170.000klm that gave me a p2016 engine light that is the (Intake Manifold Runner Control Valve) part number 53022137AJ I got one of eBey with a (Oil Control Valve) part number 53022338AB now when I install the Runner does it need any special tuning or is it a straight installation at the same time I’m going to install the Oil Control Valve is there any other sensors or valve under the intake that I should worry about.

Raaammmathorn, I know this is an older post but I just wanted to touch base to see if you ever found a resolution to this issue? I have the same exact situation that you have with my 2013 Ram 2500 5.7 that I bought used in 2016. Within the first 6 months of owning the truck I would start getting the P1004 CEL mostly after hard acceleration on the highway that would then turn off by itself after a few days of normal driving. I did see the TSB's that were mentioned in other posts but those only applied to 2009 vehicles which I figured was because after the 2009 model they realized the SRV wire harness was too short so for future models they ran a longer wiring harness when they were being built. I replaced my SRV and completely cleaned out my intake manifold while I had it out but only a month or so later the code came back. The next fix was going to be replacing either the intake manifold or PCM but I didn't see how a new manifold would be any different than me completely cleaning out my existing manifold and installing a new SRV in it and the PCM was going to be expensive and didn't want to just throw expensive parts at the problem that may not fix it so I didn't do that. Basically since 2018 I have just been leaving it as is and when the CEL comes on for that issue I just drive it without pushing the throttle too much at once for a few days and it will just go away. I have had to plan my vehicle inspections to try and schedule them the day after the light turns itself off and basically don't drive my truck until the appointment so the light won't turn on which is a pain. It has actually gotten to the point that if i'm on the highway it will sometimes happen even if I don't do any hard acceleration and I can pretty much feel by the way the truck ever so slightly will skip/shake for a couple seconds and I feel like I don't have much power that I can look over at my wife in the passenger seat and say the check engine light is about to come on and sure enough a few seconds later I hear that familiar ding and the light illuminates.

Hey! Did you ever get this sorted? I just bought a 2013 and it threw P000B and P1004 on the way home from the very small selling dealer over 4 hours away. I drove it for a week and the light went off while waiting to get it into service. I got it to the dealer yesterday, they did the fix for the P000B (remove intake manifold and replace the solenoid). But they didn't look at the SRV since they said they recommend doing one thing at a time, this solenoid might fix both code issues.

On the way home going steady speed an highway, I get the dreaded ding again. Ran the code and its now just the P1004, as apparently the solenoid code is now a thing of the past thankfully.

I had gotten check engine light under hard acceleration for the first time on the way home from the truck purchase. This time I got it just driving steady 70 MPH. Same symptoms as yours. Did you end up getting this resolved somehow?

Supposedly this motor and harness was the fix for this SRV issue, although I assumed it was 2009+ not just specifically 2009? Hoping to hear your solution if you found one.

I was just wondering if there were any updates as to an actual repair for the dreaded p1004. My son owns a 2014 2500power wagon with the 6.4l and he is running into the same issues I have read here. I also noticed that this issue isn’t just related to the v-8 engine. The v-6’s in the magnums and 300’s also had issues. Anyways, I have read that guys have replaced everything from intake manifold to Srv to actuator and also the pcm as it seems the repair specialists seem to just throw parts at the issue. Does anyone have an idea as to what could be the real issue here. Is it possible it’s a case of carbon build up? Would a fuel system service with the cleaner the dealer uses possibly solve the issue? It seems there are a lot of really smart members on this site so I would assume someone has figured out why these codes are tripping. I am not implying anything and I’m sorry if anyone takes offence but there has to be a reason that many owners are going through the same b.s..

Well, count me in! As an owner of a 2014 Ram 2500 with 6.4 Hemi with all the same issues. Dreaded P1004, Short Runner Valve. At dealers expert advice, so far replace the SRV actuator ($350+), replaced entire intake manifold ($2100+), replaced the SRV plug on the wiring harness (that was a freebee) and now, after 4 days of "advanced diagnostics" they are recommending to replace the PCM for like another $1,500. As others here, the dealership has no problem spending my money with no results. Hopefully all the TSB and dealerships in this day and age would have some type of portal where they can communicate and share diagnostic and repair information. Some how I get the feeling that even though the code is popping up, that it may be something unrelated to the SRV system. I have also noticed on occasions that the engine will start surging by 200 or so RPMs with my foot off the gas - could this be another computer outputs a throttle position, but feedback is not what it wants to see?

So if there is an ultimate fix (entire engine wire harness?) I sure would be interested in knowing what path to take... Thanks!
