Hi All,

I currently have a 2013 RAM with OEM remote start. What I would like to know is this... If truck is running and I wanted to keep it running by activating the remote start to remove the keys from ignition is this possible?? In my old RAM I was able to park truck press remote start button while still running then be able to remove the keys without the truck actually being turned off it would continue to run. Is this possible with the OEM style or starter or only aftermarket?

Hope I explained myself enough here.

Thanks,

Interesting. Never tried it that way. I always turned the truck off then used remote to restart.

Sounds like it should work since it is a module that tries to start the truck.

I would say try it and see.

I'm going to check my aftermarket one and see if it does it.

I'm not sure if this answers your question, but if I use remote start then push the start button on the dash the truck will continue to run if I just get out and walk away from it. A message pops up on the EVIC saying the key fob is out of range or something like that but it keeps running. Not sure for how long though.

I really miss that feature in my F150, especially when running into gas stations and what-not. I haven't found a way to do it with my 2013.

I haven't tried it with the 13, but I had after market alarm on the 05 2500 and I would keep the factory keep Fob in the console so when I got out to run into the store I would use it to lock the doors. Key stayed in the ignition so I never went very far from it.

I'm curious on this as well. My last truck had an aftermarket alarm with remote start, and that feature had a particular name. It was nice to have for running into gas stations that's for sure.

I tried today to press the start button twice before turning the key to shut it down and it didn't work, still shut down.

I don't think it's possible. I had that feature on an after market system I had in my Ford. I couldn't do it with my 2010 1500 with the OEM remote start.

If you have the push button start, you can just get out with the key fob and it will run indefinitely. I do this sometimes in my Jeep when I run into a gas station or getting take out. Once you get out, just lock the door at the handle or with the remote. Just be sure you're wife isn't left in the vehicle when you take the key fob. It dings the entire time and she won't be happy. Lol

You can even drive it without the key fob in the vehicle, just can't restart if you shut it off.

I wish there was a way to do this with the standard keyed system. I miss that feature as well from previous aftermarket alarms.

It is called a "Pit Stop Start" Had it on my old 98 F150 (aftermarket) It had lots of different ways to program it. Run times, time between remote starts, horn and light signals, I think the thing had close to 20 menus and 100 options. What a P.I.T.A. to program. You had to count the light flash patterns! (don't lose count)

Back to the original question, I think this is only an aftermarket feature. Due to a few reasons. As stated above, you can drive with the push start truck. Now the keyed truck would have a lock on the shifter (I think) but the one thing the OEM does not have is a brake kill. As soon as my brake was pressed in my 98 F150 the truck would shut off. therefore not driveable. Install one of these and you find out how easy it is to hotwire a car.
