I may have a line on a 2014 Ram 1500 with the 5.7L HEMI that has been totaled but the engine, trans, drive train, and all wiring is still good and intact for an extremely great deal. What would I need to swap the motor and 8 speed trans into my 2008 1500 project truck? Any help with this task would be greatly appreciated.

You’d be way (WAY) ahead to find a 5.7L from 06-08. Just on the electronics side alone, youd be looking at swapping who knows how many components over from the 14 into your 08, then somehow wiring it all up to work right. Then youd have computer issues as the PCMs are set up so differently it would be virtually impossible to have a PCM run a 2014 engine and trans while running the other 2008 components

Everything can be done with the right amount of money, but with this project you’d be better off buying a 4th gen with a hemi and 8-spd

I think with a project like this the know how would be the biggest concern. A good rebuild on what you have might be the best way to go.

Looks like I may be passing on the deal then. I definitely don't have the amount of funds to put into it to do the swap ( not if I want to finish it any time soon ) lol. Thanks for the info guys.

Tone rings are different too, it will physically fit right in but that’s about it

The engine will, the 8HP70 would require some modification (he said he wanted to use the trans too). Supposedly the 8sp retrofit has been figured out, I'm investigating to see what it would take to retrofit an 8HP70 to both my Ram and Magnum.

If you figure this out I'd love to hear about it. My sluggish 3.7 would be a lot funner to drive if it didn't bog itself down with the 1-2 shift

I haven't had a chance to give these guys a call, been busy with not getting paid and this cold snap: http://soundgermanautomotive.com/
He claims he can make an 8HP70 or 90 work in an older Ram in place of an RFE. One thing I noticed is that the ZF trannies don't have provision for a slip yoke; newer 4x4 Rams have a slip provision with the transfer case but the 2 wheelers have a 2 piece driveshaft to allow for slip. Really my only hiccup going forward.
