Good morning folks, I have been looking for days and have came up with all kinds of answers... Hoping y'all may be able to get me on the right path.

I have a 2014 Ram 1500 with a 5.7 and 8 speed tranny, the truck has 134k on it. I have been noticing that it is having a hard time between gears under light acceleration. it feels like the trans is slipping sometimes a lot worse than others. If i push on it and it shifts at the higher shift points it is great, no problems at all... my issue is most noticeable when following someone down the road, on and off the gas to maintain speed.

I have read a lot saying that the torque converters are an issue and some other things saying some programming has fixed their problems, others have said they had the whole transmission replaced. can anyone help me with finding a definitive answer to my problem and hopefully a cure that isn't an extremely expensive torque converter?

Thanks in advance
Bill

Just a thought. Have you or has it ever had tranny filter and fluid change.

Also since it’s out of warranty and if it doesn’t have a lifetime you’ve purchased. I’d look at a more specialized transmission shop for troubleshooting.

I haven't had the truck that long, and I don't know what it's prior history is. I was wanting to see what other people's experience has taught them before going to the tranny shop and paying them to diagnose what others may have already found out in the past. I hate to pay $400 or more in parts to do a filter and fluid change if the problem is deeper and going to require pulling the transmission and torque converter... that's a lot of money to not get me any further along in fixing the issue.

And if I can get some guidance on what may actually be going on I can hook it up to my scanning equipment and try to isolate the problem, there aren't many things that I take vehicles to a shop for.

My dealer charges $250 for a fluid filter change. But I hear ya at throwing money around. That’s why I’d go to a reputable shop. They can quote you a tranny service which should prolly need done anyways. A good shop will look at tranny and will or should do any diagnosis for free at that point since you’re already there. FYIW I hate part replacers. Trouble shoot the problem is always cheapest route.
