I've got a 2014 Ram Sport with the Hemi. Body and exhaust have 192000 miles. The engine and trans do not. ;) My issue is it's California emissions and it needs cats. I'm not in a California emissions state. Is there any way to run federal emissions cats and not have constant check engine lights? The price difference between federal emissions cats and California emissions is insane!

No, it is
not legal to remove or tamper with emissions equipment (such as catalytic converters) originally installed on a vehicle, regardless of the state, due to the Federal Clean Air Act. While California has stricter standards (CARB), federal law prohibits tampering with any emission control device.

Legally, no. If you live in a free state that doesn't do inspections there's nothing that will actually stop you though. You would either need a tune, or you may be able to adjust settings in Alpha OBD, not sure on that though.

That's a no on the AlfaOBD. It can be done with an HP Tuner "for off road use only".

Try it and see. BTW, the only California Emissions State is California. Although there are some other states that follow California emissions standards, they do so voluntarily.

I guess I'm more to the point wondering what were the CARB requirements in 2014 compared to the Federal requirements of 2026? If newer federal requirements meet/exceed OEM of 2014, am I not compatible/legal in a non-emissions state?

Firstly, there are no longer any separate “California” emissions cars. ALL vehicles today are “50-state compliant”

If you are planning to “register” an out-of-state vehicle in California….. it will have to Pass a current California SMOG test. So your issue will be: Will this vehicle pass a current smog test?

Do you have emissions testing where you currently have the truck registered ?

No I don't but I do use the remote start often year round so a CEL becomes an issue.

I guess I'm kinda confused on what it is exactly you're trying to do here. What does this mean? "My issue is it's California emissions and it needs cats. I'm not in a California emissions state."

Are you just needing new cats because yours are getting clogged/going bad? Are you running long tube headers? Are you trying to get rid of a CEL because of the cats?

CEL light unfortunately. P0430. New O2 sensors (oem) no leaks. California emissions tag under the hood.

UPDATE: Stealership called back. The truck is federal emissions and they double checked that. At some point before I owned the truck, the hood must've been replaced with the same color coded hood from a salvage yard. THAT truck that the hood came off was equipped with California emissions. Unless the dealer is outright wrong, I'm golden!

THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart! That will be perfect for my race truck!
If you can get these south of the border, they work.I ran these on my wifes 1320 Challenger with long tubes and no cats and no tune and never had a check engine light,i'm also running them on my untuned 300 with 6.4 manifolds /no cats and the later 2.75" exhaust system with no lights.I've turned several guys onto these little 02 spacers and all have had good luck with them.
