Like I mentioned in my “Introduction” post, I’m in the UK and picked up a ‘14 Big Horn from a coworker before he moved back to the USA. In order for it to be road legal here, some of the lights had to be changed.

My main issue is the fact that my stock reverse light locations are now my rear turn signals with amber bulbs and my reverse light is a little LED on my license plate. This really cuts down on my light output and I’m looking for ways to improve this.

I’m looking at putting some switchback LEDs in my stock reverse light location, this’ll give me bright reverse lights and amber turn signals. I’m looking at the VLEDs Triton system. Has anyone had any experience with this setup or do you know of any other setup that’ll do what I’m looking for?

Thanks,
Brett

After speaking to the guy who suggested the Triton System, I found out that I’d have to bore out the light mount. I’m going to hold off on that, at least for now. I’ve decided to try the VLEDs license plate light.

Hopefully this will help with reversing down my street at night.

Is it possible to use a tailgate light bar? Putco or OPT7 make light bars with reverse white LEDs and amber LED turn signals for their lightbars.

You might want to check out the White Night reverse lights that mount to your trailer hitch. Also get yourself a CURT 56584 Replacement Vehicle-Side 5-Pin Trailer Wiring Harness to make whatever lights you decide to add easy and trouble free to wire up to the truck.

I’ve thought about, I’m just worried about the turn signals being overlooked. Most people will be expecting them to come from the light housing, not lurking under the tailgate.

I don’t mind the turn signals being in my reverse light housing, I’m just looking for more light for reversing down my street. Hopefully I’ll be fine with the brighter light bar on my license plate. If not, I’ll try something else. Worst case scenario, I’ll install the Triton system and just keep the amber turn signals when I come back to the states....I bet I probably won’t see another Ram with them.

I’ve looked at a couple of the mounts that go on the hitch, I just wasn’t really a fan. The pictures made it look bulky and they had mixed reviews. I’ll take a look at the one you mentioned though. Do you use it?

You can see the lightbars really well. They do stand out. The white LED reverse lights do light up behind you very well. I've had a few people comment on the turn signals on the lightbar.

Have you thought about mounting some flush mount cube LED light pods into the rear bumper, put them on a toggle switch controlled relay, easy and fairly cheap, you could use one of the wire harness's listed above, instead of an interior mounted toggle switch, but the switch gives you the option of running the lights with-out having to have the truck in reverse.Search on here, there's a couple articles on using flush mounted rear bumper cube lights

That was actually my first idea but I couldn’t commit. I don’t want to mess up a bumper and then have to pay to get on shipped internationally, parts for Rams aren’t as easy to find over here.

It does take a bit of nerve to make that first cut I admit, lol.I added cubes into the front and rear bumpers of my old 13 ,and getting the nerve up to make that first cut took a bit, lol. Most of the flush mount cubes do have a decent sized flange edge to them,so you do have some wiggle room on the cut.

I don't use one, I was just throwing putting an idea out there.
I can't speak for reverse part of a tailgate light bars, but the ones with the amber turn signals are really noticable. I've followed behind quite a few and someone would have to be a blind MF'r or too busy texting to not notice one of those blinking.

Another option is to do what @JB1 did by adding diffused light LEDs to the vertical side plates of his receiver hitch, I believe he tapped into a Curt harness for power and the reverse circuit. He drilled inch and three quarter holes for the housing of the lights and then mounted them from what I can see.
