These are the only numbers stamped on this thing.
Turn it around and look inside the barrel, there should be numbers stamped there. You'll have to look real close to spot them, but i'll lay odds that's where you'll find the thermostats operating temperature.
As stated i think somebody has swapped the thermostat to a 180 prior to you owning the truck.
These days it's almost a mistake to swap out a working thermostat for a new one,as new ones are basically garbage
If it was working good, throw it back in

Don't throw your old t-stat away, rinse it off and throw it in a baggy while it's still wet,and keep it on hand. Just cause he's putting a new thermostat in it,doesn't mean it'll be any good,or last for any length of time.
If you get a year out of a new thermostat,go buy a lottery ticket :Big Laugh: Some last, but these days,it seems like more fail with-in a year then the ones that last a couple years.
Why are you so hung up on changing a working thermostat out for a new one

I wasn’t truthfully. The coolant had never been changed in 10 years and was disgusting. So I had him change it out maybe 2 months ago and the radiator had a small crack after he cleaned everything out and was leaking so we changed that and I was just like go ahead and do the thermostat as well not knowing it had a 85c one in there already so that’s yes where my problems started.

If it was my truck,i'd reinstall a known working thermostat and go from there.

Replace thermostat. Personally, I like to use a 190° Gates brand. Burp the system

After bad experiences with several aftermarket thermostats, I'm running an OEM Ford Mustang track pack 180* thermostat in mine. It's 2mm smaller diameter, but the gasket takes up that difference just fine. Other dimensions are very close and it fits right in. Part number 7L3Z-8575-D

The Ford thermostat has been better all around and more consistent than even the OEM Mopar was. EVIC usually sits at 179*, and varies only 3 or 4 degrees

Motorad owns Gates as far as know, and the Gates thermostats don't seem to be a good quality as they used to be,ever since Motorad took them over

I am still wondering about your statement that he used full concentrate.
You can't do that, it would / could be your problem, but a REAL machinic would never do that.
You also have to use the proper type for these trucks.

So my Mechanic did put in full concentrate. Been using him for years so I trust his work but I don’t think he would just fill it up -----

I'd like to know more about this tstat, so it fits in the opening and the gasket for our tstats? The opening in the tstat is big enough to flow enough coolant for the 5.7? Is the bottom plunger looks to be about the same length down as our tstats?

Looks like you can get it on Rockauto for the price of of one of the Motorad garbage tstats

The Motorcraft one you listed looks like it could be it.

I just copied the part number @Tiron posted into Rockauto and it come up with this one:
The bottom plunger looks right, and the overall shape looks right. But it says 54mm on it so IDK if its too small. But it says 89.9 C for temp which is 192F. If it would fit in our trucks I'd totally run that...

Reische's latest 3rd generation Ford-4D thermostat has been upgraded with modern features like a rubberized diaphragm and a larger heat motor. It's a direct-fit unit with proper bypass control so you're guaranteed maximum efficiency from your cooling system. All components are mfg by your OEM supplier making this the very best available for your application.

Whether you are using an aftermarket radiator or not, this thermostat will provide the best possible heat dissipation from your setup and even deliver better overall performance than our competitor's 160° thermostats. Reische believes the 170° opening temp is the ideal balance for high performance engines, providing high flow to your radiator by mid-180 temps along with good all season performance. With proper fan settings your coolant temps in cool weather will be in the 170s and in hot weather the 180s, giving those running high levels of timing and/or boost added protection against engine-damaging detonation as well as maximum hp.

All Reische Performance thermostats are backed by a 5 YEAR WARRANTY.
