Was looking on Ram's website and saw that the 8 speed is an option on the Express, anybody have one? Sounds tasty, but the 3.21 axle was the only axle allowed. Would love to have the 3.92 with that. That would probably beat my R/T

I think with the 8-speed even with 3.21's the gear ratios keep the truck in its powerband during WOT, it wont let you build the 8-speed with the other ratio's on the site.

Looked at some videos, and those shifts aren't dropping much, staying pretty high in the powerband, almost like a stall convertor.

Next time I buy a new truck I'm going with a 4x4 express, 8speed transmission, and 3.92 gears

Well apparently 3.92's are available, seeing the window sticker. Faulty website I guess. Wonder what that little hot rod would do in the 1/4.

I actually took delivery of my 2014 Black Express Quad Cab about 3 weeks ago. It has the 8-speed and 3.92 gears (standard with the Black Express package).

This truck has a surprising amount of get up and go. I have been taking it relatively easy on the truck during break-in (only 550 miles so far)... don't launch hard, but when I'm already moving, I'll mash the gas.

Mind you, my other vehicle is a 392 Challenger w/ 6-speed. The truck is obviously nowhere near as scary-fast and it doesn't rip the tach like the SRT. But I'm pleasantly surprised!

I don't have any hard numbers to back up my claims of course. But so far, I'm loving the smooth, quick shifts and torquey power band.

I learned last year, prior to ordering my '13 Big Horn, that the Ram Trucks web site is completely worthless when it comes to the various options for each trim level. You're better off going to one of the other sites, like Truecar or Costcoauto and building one out that way to see what's possible.

So how do you do a true test of the 0-60 time? Is there something more accurate than me with a stopwatch?

There is a app for that. Don't know how it works though.

I would have loved the 3:55's--have found that ratio to be the perfect compromise between hot-rod and economy champ. That said, 2015 Sport only offered 3:21 and 3:92. Went with the 3:92 as I was in a hot-rodding frame of mind, but these things would scoot with a 2:90.

I have an Express 4x4 with the 5.7, 3.92 and 8 speed as well. She scoots really nice. The traction control won't let it spin the tires much though - but it launches real nice from the light. I told my wife after we bought it that I'll bet the 2 wheel drive standard cab version would be a real screamer, especially after a few mods. She said I only need 1 truck (silly woman).

As an aside, I test drove a power wagon with the 6.4 before buying mine, it was an awesome truck but as slow as my old F150.

3,92 gears aren't standard on the blackout package. I have a 2014 Black Express Quad Cab with 3.21 gears and the 8 speed

Black Express is cosmetic only, except that it normally deletes the hitch with the towing packing installed (makes no sense). Same as the base Express, comes standard with the 6-speed and 3.21 rear end. Optional 8-speed and 3.55/3.92.

8-speed/3.92/Black Express/CC were my main requirements. Not picky or anything ;)

I got a 2014 Express and at time of purchase was under the impression it was an 8 speed. But i have the gear +/- on the shifter and it only goes up to 6. How can i verify which trans I have in the truck?
