Does anybody have any idea if the new v6 diesel is gonna have the dpf and the amonia exhaust junk on it. Will that european engine run cleaner and not need it or are we gonna be stuck with it just because its a diesel.

I thought the half ton was getting a small V8 diesel, but yeah it will have the garbage stuff on it

Nope! V6... Made by a company GM owns a HUGE stake in actually... :uhoh2:

Nissan claims to be putting a Cummins V8 in their next half tone.

I think from model year 2013 and on we are stuck with the missions junk. Just drive over a nice big bump and see what falls off. :p

Gotta wonder how Ram winds up with a European diesel with GM affiliation while Nissan, related to Renault, gets a Cummins.

Arrrg; corporate politics. :gathering:

Ram looked at the 5.0 cummins for the half ton market, but figured, most people buying a half ton diesel over a 3/4 ton diesel do it for fuel economy reason, which they knew cummins was not going to provide in a 5.0 configuration.

the eco diesel will do just fine with the half ton crowd. Its a very proven motor.

Banks performance has already pushed this engine to 650+hp.

I have a friend who was a performance engineer at Cummins Jamestown engine plant. He said Cummins announced the Nissan deal in the early spring but Nissan waited cause they were haveing frame problems.

The Cummins is still going to get great fuel economy. They went with a motor the owned an manufactured rather then buying one.
It's also been used for sometime and proven vs. a brand new engine
I have to imagine there will be a pretty sizable difference in option cost

Saying the VM Motori engine is new is a bit of a stretch though as its been used in other vehicles. (2011 Jeep and 2012 in the Lancia and now 2014 in the Ram).

Ram was going to use the v8 cummins back in 08, but backed out when the market went for a ****. Time the half ton diesel project got back on track, fiat was majorly in the picture.

Personally, i think the 3.0L is better suit for a half ton as its mpg will be higher then the cummins.

Don't get me wrong, id love to see a cummins in the ram, but with emissions and other junk required on diesels, i feel the big cummins engines should be left in the HD trucks.

I was referring to the 5.0 Cummins as the new(er) engine

Around that same time Nissan was also partnered with Cummins in their ATLAS project, which specifically targeted fuel economy of a small diesel in a half ton truck although not the 5.0 they are going to use
