Thanks again Tom!

You're welcome. It was mailed this morning, but may take a week or more. BTW make sure and carefully check the mechanism for cracks while it's open. The block acts as a damper, and without it I've heard the mechanism could be damaged. If so, then take it in, or repair whatever is broken. Mine never fell open, so I just put the block in and looked for damage (none).

Thanks Sheets7777..... very informmative videos on the problem.
If the problem is with 2013 to 2017 models, I wonder why the recall was only for 2015 to 2017??
My 18 has the recall

Thats a bit of a problem for me Jay.
The small part you do need is a "recall" part and not for sale at the dealer.
I can't get one because my vehicle VIN/year is not in the recall.
I contacted a seller in the US (I'm from Canada) and they had one for $1 but wanted $26 for shipping!!!
Maybe I'll just unhook it......
Don't you just love what some of our nextdoor neighbours want for shipping?
Honest to God I was shopping for a license plate lamp that cost $6.95 and when I got to the checkout screen they wanted.....get this....$140 US!!!
I contacted seller to get the real price.
Nope that was the cost to send like 400 kms. Gave a real BS cry-me-a-river-of-tears story as to why.
Basically thinks we're on the other side of the world.
So I bought a different lamp from the other side of the world....China
And FREE shipping.
Whose loss?

Curious..... I know there was a recall for the Ram 2015-2017 Tailgate Latch (Recall #U74) but I have a 2014 Express that's doing it.
At first, I'd be driving down the road and when the auto door locks kicked in, the tailgate would drop. Scares the crap out of me as I keep thinking I've been rear ended!
Now when I walk away from my truck and hit the door lock on the FOB the tailgate is dropping also. (and embarrassing...)

Is there anyone else with a 2014 that's having the same problem???

$27 for a part you can’t get anywhere else that will solve your problem sounds like a deal to me...

I had a new 2016 Victory cruiser that had a problem with the saddlebag latches that their had been recalls up to 2015. it was exact same as earlier but not technically covered under the recall. i took pictures and sent them to the service dept and they submitted a claim and Polaris agreed it was the same issue. have they changed the recall application dates? nope.

The primary reason we (at the dealership) can't sell recall parts is most all of them are restricted and we can only purchase a small number of parts on a weekly basis. Some even require entering a VIN for the vehicle to be repaired before we can order a part for it. In most cases, we have need for many more each week than we can get. The U74 restriction has been relaxed a little bit now from allowing 5 per week to now 20 per week. For liability reasons, FCA does not allow us to sell recall parts even if there were no retrictions, but some dealers disregard this and sell them anyway.

I bought one at a dealer. I called asking if they had part # 68448027AA. They had it and I drove down and bought it for .81 cents. I never mentioned "recall". Joked with the guy that it was the cheapest part I'd ever bought at a dealership.

No problems with my 2014 Express...so far! Also have the damper from DeeZee (Tailgate Assist - Less than $40 on Real Truck site) so it nevers "bangs".
