Hey everyone so I have posted about this before but I am still a little confused. I have decided that I would like to do a six inch lift for my truck. I love the look of 35's. But what I am lost at is that my current tires are about 33 inches. On 3.21 gearing how would 35's do that much damage? I am not bothered by gas mileage. I just want to make sure that I won't be breaking stuff on my truck. I don't do any off roading, and I don't tow anything. I daily drive this truck, and I'm just wondering why is this so advised against because it's not that big of a change. Maybe I just don't quite understand, but for just driving how can it possibly be that bad?

I have 35's with 3.21's with Bils, with the 8sp transmission it's liveable, but it does downshift from 8 - 7 pretty often when going over any rise, ie overpasses, etc which it didn't do with stock 33's. If I had it to do again I probably would just stick with the stock 33's, tbh.

As for breaking, should be no issues as long as you use quality brand lift/components. General consensus seems to stay away from Rough Country.

35s and 3.21 gears with the 8 speed works fine.

Now if you’re trying to build a dedicated and highly tuned offroad machine, then re-gearing would be necessary.

But for what most use their Ram for it’ll be perfectly fine.

Then again if you were building a real offroad vehicle your Ram wouldn’t be the best platform to begin with considering how poor the front diff is (if you have the auto feature) and how difficult they are just to re-gear etc.

So if you’re talking 35s/3.21s for a truck that stays on the road mostly and most of the time the worst it’s going to see is inclement on-road weather.....then you’ll be just fine.

from a ring & pinion perspective, a 3.21 gear set is stronger than a 3.92 so no worries there on breaking stuff........

Truck will shift a little more in gears 6 thru 8 and won’t be quite as snappy but the Hemi has got enough juice to do the job, just be honest and realistic about how the truck will drive after the mods.

Look for lighter 35’s, they are out there and the weight of tires is a bigger deal than anything.

Do you a start on the list of lighter 35’s?

Not sure what you’re asking there?

The 35” mt’s I have are light IMO, only 65 lbs

For comparison, a 35” Toyo MT (great tire) weighs 79 lbs

my falken wildpeaks are 75 each, plus wheels. I'm over 120# a corner. Running 3.21 and 35x12.5 rubber. It's still peppy, but not barn burner fast off the line. white wall wheels done.jpg
