I am thinking about purchasing a 2016/2017 ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.7. This will be an upgrade from my current 02 2500 Cummins. I have owned 3 2nd gen and this would be my first 4th gen. Reason for buying is my wife isn’t to fond of the manul trans and car seats don’t fit the back seat to well.my question is what problems should I expect the truck will be bought with less than 10k on it. I have read a lot of potential lifter issues and other gripes on other small things, mainly trying to gain as much info as I can for an informed decision in the purchase.

I bought my 17 CC with 10k on it, now 21.5k. No issues other than the recalls everyone gets. Everyone says beware of exhaust manifold bolts. I would lean more toward the lifter issues etc more of a lack of preventative measures or how the truck was used/serviced if they aren’t the orig owner. I use high quality oil/filters and change them every 4k.
Car seats fit with tons of room even behind me with the seat all the way back.

Have had no issues with any of the interior parts as of yet except for one of the overhead maplight buttons coming unseated. Easy fix to slide it back in.
As for mileage, oem tires/wheels averaged 18-19 about 50/50 hwy/city. After tire/wheel upgrade I am averaging 17-17.5 hwy/city. Exhaust, K&N, Pedal Commander kind of cancel each other out.

Anytime. If you do pull the trigger on it, go ahead and at least get a catch can for it. Every 4k mi i dump out 3-4oz of oil that wouldve gone into the intake.

No, dude you have a very special Ram, never sell that truck! Those Cummins are the most sought after trucks on the market, the next year they went to all of the high pressure stuff. That engine you have is bullet proof and easy to work on. 94-98 Cummins are loved for the "doomsday" crowd, that was before the EPA crawled up everyone's butt, but the 1998-2002 also are very sought after. I would never give that up to have a new truck. The 2016-7 preheat the transmission fluid so now the transmission temperature and engine temperature are inner dependent, lifter/cam fails all over the place. Keep your truck and if you wife wants another vehicle go that way imo. Check out Craigslist, those years Cummins actually increase in value, and there is a reason for that. Take the money and buy the wife some type of car that makes the kids happy, but hold on to that truck, especially if you know the history and there aren't any issues with it.

I have a 2016 Ram 1500 sport Crew Cab, 4x4 with 68,000km. (I live in Canada with harsh winters).

My truck has never been in the shop for anything other than recalls.

The biggest thing as with any vehicle is routine maintenance. Take care of and treat your truck properly and it will last a long time.

I also highly suggest undercoating the truck annually at a shop such a Krown like I do. 0 rust on my truck and I live in a snow belt where the salt the roads religiously.

City driving depending on how I drive I get anywhere from 13.1-14.8L/100Km.
Highway driving I am getting 10.8-11.1L/100Km

I love my Cummins don’t get me wrong and I’ll prob buy another one day I totally agree it’s a great truck, but with our situation the back seat is a must I don’t pull anything anymore so I am will to let someone else enjoy it the way I have I’m leaning towards the ram for the value every ford Chevy I see are super high priced and Toyota gets terrible fuel mileage. I’m looking for worry free fun driving for the next few years lol
