Well I believe I have reached a dead end with dealer and my Rear end whine..
Can anyone tell me the recommended backlash for the 2500 diff?
What about Pinion Nut Torque Specs?

And what is the Manufacture of the rear diff?

Mine is the 3:73 if that means anything.

Backlash spec is .007-.011”. However that’s when setting up new gears, the backlash will change over time.

There is no set torque for the pinion nut because the nut is tightened until proper bearing preload is achieved.

Axles are made by AAM.

Thanks for the info Tach Tech..I have just turned 11K miles on my slightly more than 1 year old truck, so the gears should be fairly new still I Imagine, so the .007-.011 should fall a target still??

Ya, on your truck the backlash should still be in that range.

Hey have a question and not trying to jack the thread. I had the 3.73 in my 16 2500 with no noise at all. Did a gear swap to 4.56's. Have a bout 800 miles on them dropped the fluid and put redline in at 500. Have a very slight wine from the gears. My shop a very reputable shop explained to me before install after market gears are cut for strength and will whine and also because the obvious a taller gear. Besides that a huge difference and runs great. Just looking for some input from people with more knowledge. Always trying to learn.

That’s fairly typical of aftermarket gears.
