I just got a 2016 Longhorn Eco Diesel with 176k miles. The other day on the way home on the interstate the CEL came on and the power went down struggling to get over 60 mphs. Once I got off the interstate it corrected a bit but still winding out at 3000 rpms and only shifting when I took my foot off the pedal. I took it to Oriely to get the codes checked the next day and he knows rams and thought they were odd.

P1D30 oil viscosity low. That's odd because it has the Rotella T6 5w40 in it, levels are good and it was just changed.

P050E Cold start engine exhaust temperature too low. The Orliely guy thought it might be going into a "partial limp mode" is that a thing? Thought there was only 1 limp mode and a friend said I wouldnt see 3000 rpms in that mode.

The truck does go into regen mode a lot based on what others have told me that have a the same engine. I'm taking it to a dealer next week but hoping someone might have input as its running fine on back roads low speeds.

Get on a highway, do the speed limit while in 7th gear.
I drive to the 3rd off ramp, which is 15 miles in 7th gear & the Regen drops down to 30 or 40, so i turn around & come back to town.
I have only been driving to the hospital & returning home, that distance is too short for the eco diesel, so i get a lot of regens

Just hit 100% on the exhaust filter.

You may need to get a Forced Regen

Are you blowing smoke out of the exhaust,
That could possibly mean that the DEF pump is no longer injecting fluid into the Exhaust.
Not because the pump is bad, but because the computer shut it off.

If you read that trouble shooting guide
https://www.obd-codes.com/p050e
It mentions a particular sensor that is likely malfunctioning
exhaust temperature sensor

The exhaust temperature sensor is frequently confused with an oxygen sensor

...................................................................
this may be the part, or Not
=========================

for the exact location of where the
exhaust temperature sensor fits on an ecodiesel,
you should ask a mechanic or maybe
John Jensen will jump in ?

This code is probably from the oil life indicator not being reset when the oil change was being done or it glitched and dropped to 0%. The engine doesn't have a sensor that measures oil viscosity.
If I remember correctly the ECM won't initiate a regen cycle with this code present.

the Dorman site & a few others call it
a

Exhaust Gas Temperature EGT Sensor

on a Cummins, it is at the rear of the some exhaust parts, in the same general area as the 02 sensors are located

Thanks GT Yankee! no black smoke and the regen issue never made it lose power... but does make sense as the DEF fluid seemed to go down super slow. Is there a chance the 100% will clear at highway speeds without it being forced? Concerned it might hurt to drive it like that before the mechanic can see it.

And Crash68 that makes sense to as even after the oil change the dash is telling me its due and the oil life is 0... what a pain! I have a feeling this truck is meant to be owned by a Diesel Mechanic

Now the flashing lighting bolt kicked on while sitting in the truck on a conf call... Have an appointment at the mechanic Thursday and the list grows.

My personal opinion, dump the diesel and get a Hemi. New diesels are maintenance nightmares with all the emissions crap they've got. The extra money you are spending on fuel and maintenance isn't worth the better MPG you get... when the thing is actually running properly.
