I have a 2016 2500 Tradesmen that came with the 18" steel wheels. I picked up a set of 18" aluminum wheels off of a 2016 2500 Laramie (same size exact tire/size, Transforce) with 5k miles on them. I had Costco switch the tires but they were unable to get the new TPMS to show up.

I've read that sometimes you need to drive it for a while at over 15mph for 20 minutes. I have driven it around town but not that long consistently yet. Is anyone aware of this issue, should this work. I'm really trying to avoid purchasing new TPMS sensors. Thank you.

"There is no formal retraining procedure necessary. Drive the vehicle for a minimum of 10 minutes while maintaining a continuous speed above 15 mph (24 km/h). During this time, the system will learn the new sensor ID code and will clear any DTCs automatically. If a sensor cannot be trained, see appropriate manufacturer service information."

Did the wheels even have the sensors in them?

Yes, the new wheels are brand new take offs from a 2016 RAM 2500 Laramie (Same year/model as mine, just higher trim package). They had about ~3k miles on them. thanks

here is my truck with the new wheels

It can take a few miles for them to completely reset. One of mine was stubborn once and took a couple of miles. If you’ve been driving around for a while or more than a day and none of them are showing then something’s not right. If it is the OEM Mopar sensors in there they communicate wirelessly and should have popped up on the screen by now.

You can have a tire shop check the sensors, they usually do this for free.

Looking at the parts list, seems like all single wheel year 2016 2500s use the same 68249197AA sensor. So they should be working. You may have one sensor or antenna damaged. The dealer WiTech can read sensor data and troubleshoot.

I think my dealer had trouble swapping my wheels/tires/sensors from my 2015 Sport to my 2017 Laramie. (I had sport wheels in black chrome and new Hankook tires I wanted to keep) They ended up pulling the Laramie sensors and putting them on my wheels so that my Laramie would see its "own sensors". Don't see why that would have to be done given that both have 20" wheels, but my model year was different and also 2WD vs. 4WD. If you have a Discount Tire store nearby, they can make it work. They have sensors that any car can read.

Most people remove tpms when selling wheels/ tires.. i did

You can do it without removing entire tire from rim

There were sensor changes sometime between 2015 and 2017 I think. But the OP is doing year 2016 to 2016.

That doesn’t mean they’re still in there. He probably pulled them for his new set of rims and tires.

Just to close the loop on this. There were no sensors in new tires. Doh! Had to pull off the old ones, all good now.
