My father has a 2017 2500 Laramie with the stock projector headlights. They look good but the light output is terrible. What kind of bulb upgrade can be done without changing the projectors and what part numbers for LED headlights should i be looking for. Im away at work so i cant do alot of research. Thanks,

Been discussed many times here before, if/when you have more time, here are some search results for "projector LEDs" that may help you make a decision. There are tons of options out there and just as many opinions on here as to which ones are the best.

If the 2500 is the same as the 1500 (in this case I would assume it is but maybe someone can confirm), the bulb would be a 9005. Here are the bulbs I recently went with in my 2017 projectors:

They've been great so far, I think they perform close to the HIDs in the past but am hoping the LEDs will be more reliable than the HIDs have been.

I just put the same ones in my 2017 1500 and love them. Did you do your fogs ? I always run my fogs but shut them off since the color is so off they look terrible!!

Why? A statement like that needs a reason

This has been beaten to death so i suggest searching it and you can read about it. HID’s are far superior and are designed to be used in projectors. LED’s need the use of reflector bowls in order to project the light evenly. LED’s in projectors usually result in uneven distributed light.

I'm looking to buy new headlights. What would you suggest is best for projectors?

It’s also been beaten to death here recently that LEDs have just about caught up to HIDs. I’ve run them both out of stock ram projectors and they are pretty close. HIDs have let me down each time with failing ballasts within the first year or two, but I attribute that to our fine northeastern weather.

That being said I did hear on here recently of a hid kit that could fit the ballasts inside the light housing itself. I’m curious how long that kind of setup would hold up, that was my main reason to switch to LEDs, to not have anything “exposed” under the hood.

The issue with Led is the shape of the bulb. Our projectors are designed to take light output from a true 360* bulb. LED’s have light output voids between each chipset which once again results in spotty output.

In a ram truck with projectors, HID’s are the way to go.

Just from my personal experience, this isn't an issue. I don't notice any light break up with the LEDs I have in, looks identical to the HIDs I've had, maybe just ever so slightly less bright. What you're saying makes sense, but in real world use, I'm just not seeing it.

I had big doubts about going with LEDs in my projectors after everything I've read on here, but I'm very pleasantly surprised and very satisfied with their performance. Now, if they can just hold up longer than the HIDs I've had in the past, that would be awesome.
