2017 ram 3500, 220k mi, front driver clanking/rattling noise?

On a Cummins.... not really. It could be done slightly cheaper, but not much. It's a reasonable price in our area.

Hmm. I don't have any jacks strong enough for this truck. Haven't had the need. No way to diagnose without lifting it up?
None. You got a harbor Freight or just your jack you use if you have a flat tire to change, and a set of jackstands. Lift the unit up and move the wheels with the tires on first then go deeper if you hear the noise. Just my opinion to start with.

Update: well, after making the video shared earlier, it has never made the sound again. didn't occur on way to shop, shop couldn't reproduce, got it back, have driven it for several weeks including several multi-hour drives .... nada. maybe it really was something kicked up off the road, or perhaps one of those lost 10mm sockets managed to free itself and got kicked around by the fan blades and finally knocked out. it's a mystery, just like the number of licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie roll tootsie pop.

got the truck serviced, trans oil flushed, yadda yadda. running great. will continue monitoring for noise...
