2017 Ram 8 Speed Wont Shift Into Park

I've found a lot of posts about this, but surprisingly none about the 8 speed.
This is a friend's, so bear with me.

2017 dodge ram has not shifted into park in over a year. Has the 8 speed with the god awful (yes, sorry) shift knob. Just flashes, and you can't take the key out because of it. If I see him pop off his pos. battery cable one more time I'm putting it somewhere he won't like. Any ideas what this could be?

Only thing I've seen is snow, but it's the electronic crap for one, and unless it's mud I don't think it'd stay up there that long if it was mechanical.

Inspect the transmission, locate the electrical connector, remove, inspect, clean as required and replace.

The 8-speed is an electronically controlled transmission. I actually think the dial shift is excellent.

I was sure I'd hate it but took no time to adapt to using it.

There is a way to put into park and take out key. 2018 has emergency release strap lower left side panel by e-brake. open panel and use flat head screw drive to release when you pull on strap.

That puts it into neautral so it can be moved if the battery goes dead etc.,the strap doesn't put it into Park

sounds like a bad shift solenoid, or parking switch. but proper diag should be performed.
