For a regular non-off road tire what would you prefer and why (SL Load Rating or E1 Load Rating)?

I have two 2018 RAM 1500's (2WD Tradesman). Yesterday, I replaced the factory tires on one of them with Michelin LTX M/S Defender (E1 Load Rating). The factory tires had 52K miles on them (~3.5 years old) and they could have lasted maybe another 10K but I decided to go ahead and replace them anyway.

Also, what pressure would you put in E1's. Obviously, you would not want to put the maximum (80 psi) since there is insufficient load on the tires to cause even tire wear (The wear would be more towards the middle.). One person who has E1's said that 45 psi is not enough to cause uneven tire wear.

I assume that the difference in stated Tire Mileage Life is because of the higher load rating of E1's (If you actually put a lot of load on the E1's they would wear out faster.). The tread depth of the E1's is more than the SL's.
SL = 70K miles
E1 = 50K miles

Some people in South Texas say that E1's are highly resistant to thorn punctures (People with deer leases).

Maximum Pressures:
SL = 44 psi
E1 = 80 psi

Thanks in Advance.

If it's the Load E tire is the same size as the factory size, run the same air pressure. My 1500 Outdoorsman came with Load E tires and the door tags says to run 43 psi on all. I usually run 40 psi in the rears so it rides better if I'm not towing or hauling anything. When towing I usually run 50 psi to firm the rear end up.

I ran my e rated Nitto ridge grapplers at 42 psi. I hated those tires. They rode like trash. Unless you are doing a lot of heavy towing, or you just want large off-road tires that are only offered in e rated, I would avoid them at all cost. I know it’s too late, but for your next set.

I have the E rated Nitto G2 tires on my 1500. I currently run them at 42 in the front 40 in the rear.
I used to run them around 55psi but dropped them last Thanksgiving when I went on a road trip to see if it rode better. I think it does.
I have not noticed any issues with tire wear.
I might try to drop them a little lower, somewhere around 35psi.

When towing, I will them at 65psi

I have gotten used to the new ride/feel of the E1 tires and I like them. I put 43 psi in all four tires.

I thought that there was a drop in mpg, but after further evaluation I conclude that any drop in mpg with E1's is insignificant. For certain there is no mpg drop in highway driving. If there is an mpg drop in city driving, it is less than 3%.

In the near future, I plan to replace the factory tires on my other truck with E1's (Michelin LTX M/S Defender).

Thank you.

I currently run the Michelin LTX M/S Defender
On my Ram 1500, i always have about 500 pounds of weight in the bed
I run them at 39 PSI.
I drive longer distances when i am working & i get good wear from them.

I used to run the Michelin LTX M/S 2 tire, but they were replaced by the Michelin LTX M/S & they say that they are an improved rubber formula

You only need 45psi (43PSI actually) on LT 275/65/20 to meet wha the factory gave you on P rated 275/60/20 tires according to your placard.
