Has anybody ever actually checked the transmission fluid using the instructions in the manual (leave engine on while checking)? I checked mine earlier today warm with it not running and it registered right at the hot mark on the dipstick. This afternoon, I measured it using the instructions in the manual and it read about halfway up the stick.

Can someone with this engine and transmission combo please check their transmission fluid for me while the truck is running and verify that theirs is full while warm?

I've always checked my 2014 6.7 w/ 68rfe at at least 150F running in neutral w/ pkb brake set on level ground and hasn't steered me wrong

Thank you. Does your manual say to check it while it’s running? I’ve seen some say that theirs doesn’t say to do that, but mine does. I’m having a hard shift condition in 3rd gear and I’m wondering if it’s because I’m a quart low on transmission fluid.

The old way with previous Ram diesel transmissions was to be in neutral because the pump did not operate in park. With the 68RFE, the pump operates in park and neutral.

I'm guessing that's another reason why it needs to be checked while it's running, because the pump needs to be running when it's checked.

All automatic transmissions are checked with the vehicle running

pretty much all automatic transmissions ever made in the history of cars are supposed to be checked while the vehicle is running.

The only one I can think of that can be checked while off is Hondas and acuras. My 08 accord you can check while off and I had an 03 Acura that was the same

Do those say to check cold then? You can technically check any tranny cold and off but its not as accurate as warm and running

Yep check cold on a flat surface. Some have the dipstick in different places so the fluid level isn't affected by the pump when the engine is running
