Own 2017 Ram 1500 Std Cab Hemi - Rental was 2019 4-dr 1500 4X4 Hemi.

I was very disappointed in the new 2019. It felt like it had limited power. Hated the auto shutoff button.

Granted, my 2017 is Std Cab with CAI and exhaust upgrade … probably lighter as well but it sure feels more responsive on throttle punch than does the 2019 unit.

It re-infirces that I'm not planning on swapping or upgrading to the 5th gen anytime soon.

I do want to put a Sport hood on my Ram 1500

Love my 2020, I added the Tazer and pulsar to mine. Fixed all the things I didn’t like. Now I’m deciding on exhaust.

Your used to how your 17 drives and unfamiliar with the 19. So in saying that your subconsciously thinking about how different the 2 are. You've got several mods done on the 17 which aren't apparent to how the 19 drives.
If your 17 was bone stock as the 19 is then your opinion would be different.

Jay Greene also said his 5th Gen 2019 was down on power compared to the older 4th Gens when it was stock,so you're not alone in thinking it was down on power.

Not to mention the reg cab vs crew cab. When I switched from my regular cabs up to a crew cab (all 4th gens) the performance difference was pretty large. Those regular cabs have a lot different feel and I miss how they drive, but I needed more room inside. Haven't driven a 5th gen yet so I can't speak to their performance other than it should be about the same if not better, same hp but lighter weight.

I’ve seen 0-60 videos comparing stock 2019 RAM 1500 (5th gen) with the Hemi and compared them to the 2018 (4th gen) and the 4th gen is definitely faster. I think this has to do with weight.

I think the weight difference between the RCSW and the Crew Cab is almost 1K> That's a lot more to push down the street IMHO

LOL! Never equal comparisons and the conclusion is always that one is a dog... Really? C'mon! Way lighter truck (maybe grossly more depending on option differences), some free-flowing mods, who knows what gearing, and distinctly different programming between the two vintages from the factory. Now a comparison of apples-to-apples, including fresh reset of the computers so all adaptive learning is lost, would be informative.

I stepped up from a 05, 3.6 to a 19, 6.4 off road, 2500 HD, four door. So needless to say I think the 6.4 is a rocket. I am very pleased with it so far. The drive by wire is a trip though.

Except, the DSs (4th gens) are heavier than the new DTs (5th gen).

While it is not exactly comparing apples and oranges, I had a 2017 Big Horn crew cab that was pretty well set up. It had heated leather seats, the 8.4 inch screen, the front and rear sensors, with 20 inch wheels. I added a bed liner, canopy, side steps and a few other items. I then made the mistake of driving the 2019 Limited (which is now parked in my driveway). I have not noticed any difference in power though the '19 is definitely much quieter. When I started the '17, everyone in the house knew I was leaving for work. I don't tow anything real heavy but the '19 has about 1,000 lb more towing capacity (same rear end and tranny but the '19 has the air shocks) and I don't even notice my boat (around 3500) even though I have to pull through some fairly hilly areas on my way to the coast. I haven't gone out to the drag strip but have noticed no difference as far as normal daily driving goes. You still have to watch it a little as you take off or you will break the tires loose and if you pull out to pass, you better watch out or you will be going way faster than anticipated and you won't even notice because the truck is so quiet. Speaking of quiet, this is not just the nicest truck I have owned, it is the quietest most comfortable vehicle I have owned and in my 68 years I have owned a bunch. As a work truck, the short bed and fancy interior aren't needed, but as a daily driver occasionally used for light hauling and pulling boat trailers it is hard to beat. I actually prefer the new body style and the 22 inch wheels, 12 inch split screen and enormous sun roof don't hurt either. One issue is all the available features. I have a lot of technical experience ( nearly 50 years in electronics) and still spent a couple of hours with the manual, drilling down through the menus to get things set up the way I wanted, though in truth I went through the same procedure with the '17, just not as many features to deal with. At any rate, if you do not want to buy a new truck, do not take a test drive in one of the new Laramie or Limited trims. You might think you are just killing a little time on a Saturday morning but danger awaits :).

Wow, had a 2017 2500, 6.4, traded it for a 2019 6.4. HUGE difference! New 8 speed transmission and stiffer frame and suspension... completely different truck. 2019 is hands and feet better than the 2017 and I loved my 2017!
