I have the simple three button key fob.....how long does the battery ususlally last? Went to lock truck yesterday...nothing happened. Got in truck....message fob not recognized....5 seconds later.....truck started normally. Fob is working perfectly now. Should I change battery ??

I'd change it just to rule it out as a problem. If you get the message with a new battery then there's an intermittent issue somewhere else. Then I'd use my spare key to see if it's a fob issue before digging deeper.

I think it has something to do with more than one transmitter in or around the truck causing electronic confusion. I have a friend with a Ford and sometimes when I get in it gives the "no fob detected" error which immediately goes away. Sometimes when he gets in my Ram I get the message. I think it is the conflict between the presence of two fobs that causes the issue.

As in all issues, start with the simplest and work to the most complicated. I once stopped to help a fellow that had his Honda motorbike half torn apart on the side of the road because it wouldn't start. He could not find the problem but on top of that, he didn't know how to put it back together so he would have never figured out the issue anyhow. Helped him put it back together, turned the petcock to reserve, fired right up.

If you have a voltmeter it is really easy to check the existing battery to see if that is the issue. If no meter, change battery as first step. Would have taken less time that doing this post. :)

Update.....FOB starting working fine again...problem only happened once when we were far from home......took the advice.....changed the battery in FOB......seems like it is working fine. The guy at the hardware store told me that some of these new FOBs only last 2 to 3 years....said he has replaced many batteries. Gonna carry an extra battery in truck....as a backup......never really thought to do this on past vehicles......of course.....they had keys....not FOBs. Thanks for the advice.

Your fob has a key too. If the battery dies you can use the key to get into the truck, then use the head of the fob (rubber end) to press the push-to-start button and start the truck.

One of the Fobs for the Jeep started having range issues with the remote start. Pull the battery and sure enough it is down to 2.8 volts, even though it is only 2 years old. A 2032 new is 3.2 to 3.3 volts. Once it drops below 2.9 you will start seeing issues with the FOB working reliably.
