How does the trailer tow mirrors affected a 2019 Limited? Does it delete the front grill camera?

I have a 2019 Limited with the Tow Mirror option and it does delete the front camera and surround view option.

I would love to have the front camera just for parking and pulling up to another vehicle/obstacle.

I was under the impression that the front view camera wasn’t an actual camera we could use (like how we can view the backup camera). It’s only purpose is to aid in surround view. So for example, it wouldn’t give you eyes in the front of your Ram, but it would help surround view actually work.

I gathered this from the Ram YouTube video with the surround view preview, and also a couple of user review YouTube videos.

You can definitely use the front camera. I do have the surround view but with surround view on you can switch between the front and the rear cameras. I added the surround view as an always there shortcut down at the bottom of the UConnect screen and frequently use it when pulling into spots.

This video has a pretty good demo of it at the 6:35 mark.

Hey man, thanks for the video! I had heard my info wrong, so thanks for correcting me. Not only can you view through the front, but the mirror side cameras too, that’s pretty sweet! It’s annoying that FCA opted out of including cameras if you had tow mirrors.

That video does not have the tow mirrors. I have the tow mirrors and there is definitely no front camera or 360 surround view. There is also no power folding mirrors which ****** me off.

Also. I forgot. The tow mirrors flip up 90 degrees. That’s kind of cool.

You are correct. There is a long thread on here about the fact that the Tow Mirrors deleted the Surround View. I believe the later 19’s had the option to add the tow package and delete the Trailer Tow Mirrors. But people who got the early models were pretty upset that they lost the surround view by adding the Trailer Tow package.

I was unaware that if you had the tow mirrors it also removed the front camera. I was just pointing out that if equipped you could “view” the front camera and it wasn’t just there for the surround view.

Thanks dmalone.

Can you take a picture or at least describe where your front camera is located?

I want to add the front camera if possible.

Gain: tow mirrors
Loss:
3 cameras, surround view, front view, you only keep the rear one.
Power fold (button goes between the L and R selectors)
Auto tilt down on reverse gear option
Exterior entry/exit soft lighting toward ground
Something I haven't heard yet?

The list adds up. People seem to concede that surround is disappointing to be gone but then get worked up, rightfully so, at power fold missing.

Sorry I missed this. I wish I could take a picture but mine has been at the dealership since July 17th because the 12 inch screen went out. Missed two ETA dates already for the replacement. Still waiting with no new ETA.

But, I believe it is right under the “A” in the front grill.

Both auto tilt and exterior entry/exit lights are retained.

I can tell you confidently the limited I drove did not. UConnect had permanently disabled the setting in options on that truck. Maybe that is an error in software. And I looked on the underside if the mirrors for surround cameras it was all black plastic, I would have noticed a light.

Perhaps some trucks build different over time, more time = ram fixing more complaints. There may now be trucks with detailed differences.

I was curious if you were aware the 360 Monitor or Power Folding mirrors were missing when you purchased your truck. I made the same mistake and didn't know things were removed when you got Tow Mirrors.
