Hello all,

Starting to think I have an electrical gremlin, but thought I would reach out to the forum to see if anyone else has had this issue. This is the second random occurrence of this type for this truck.

I drove the truck into work this morning and as I was backing into my parking spot (no other cars were in the lot at 0500), the parking sensors went off and the truck abruptly stopped. I tried to put the truck back into drive and it would not go anywhere. I noticed that the emergency brake had engaged - I did not press it. I took the e-brake off and went forward a few feet then went in reverse again into the parking spot. Once again the sensors went off, the parking brake engaged and I watched the rotary transmission go from R to P without me touching it...weirdest damn thing ever. As I said in the beginning this was the second occurrence, the first time was in full daylight in my driveway and I did not pay close attention to everything as I did this AM. It was dark out this time and I could easily see all of the lights switching around. I checked the parking sensor switch and it was not off, I also tried to duplicate it in the parking lot before I left work, and once again in my driveway...CND either time.

Anyone else here ever experience anything like this? I am seriously close to taking it somewhere for a trade-in because it has been a flaky "can't tell if/when it will happen again."

Many folks experience the "sensitive" rear brake assist and end up turning it off. I did after the 2nd occurrence backing in my driveway. You can hit the dealer up as I think there was an update available to improve performance but many still keep it off after it gives you whiplash a few times.

Isn’t that a great system! It keeps you from backing into something but I’ve discovered the language in the cab of the truck gets rather colorful when it happens. And that is before the better half cranks up and ends by ripping into you asking what you did! ;)

It’s a great system and works well...just sometimes too well. I’d rather have it than not. It’s saved me more than once on a rainy night in a dark pasture with a line of fence posts.

I haven't had it go into park or apply the e-brake, but I sometimes pull into the neighbors driveway to get a straight shot backing down mine. His is steep and when I am backing out, the parking sensor thinks I am going to "hit" the road! Slams on the brakes every time if I don't remember to turn off the rear parking sensors.

Roger that. Might be a dumb question, but if the rear parking sensor is off will the truck still apply the brakes? Systems are independent of one another?
